The announcement follows a statement from owner Yevgeny Prigozhin accusing Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu of ordering a rocket strike on Wagner’s field camps in the Ukraine where its soldier are fighting on behalf of Russia against Ukranian forces.

supposedly Wagner is stopping 200 KM short of Moscow. There is no way I would believe any promises Putin makes. This whole thing is completely insane. Putin's power has been seriously weakened by this but them stopping short of the goalline will probably go down as a serious mistake. At least in the short term this is good for Ukraine though.

This may be best-case scenario. It avoids destabilizing infighting while also weakening Putin and hopefully leading to a reduction or withdrawal for forces fighting in Ukraine. I wasn't particularly big on the "Prigozhian vs Chechens" with nukes on a pole. I'm all for toppling the Putin regime but some of the alternatives aren't much better.

Yeah, that's why I didn't get all the cheerleading for these guys to go in and clean house in Moscow. An unstable Russia is not really a great thing. You just need someone at the head of a stabilized Russia (or as near as Russia will ever get) who isn't a total despot or nutjob.

People only want to see Putin get fucked up and don't care about the details. That's understandable to an extent but we have to think about what comes after.

Russia has been unstable really since the 80's (arguably much much longer) so as long as the WMD's don't fall into the wrong(er?) hands (which is a far from safe bet) then we're sort of on the same sliding scale.

The fact people were out there cheering on the attempted military coup says a lot about the mindset of the average Russian tbh.

There are times when I read the news (ie: the board) and I say, "damn I wish I was still taking political science" with the international relations PhD dude. I think this is one of those times, but he's very far right so I'm not sure if I want to be in his class right now. He's been critical of DJT but still openly supported him as "lesser of the two evils" gimmick in 2016. I unfollowed him by 2020.
