Yeah, I—and about three quarters of a million people in WV—have always expected this to go the other way, with a couple of the DC metro counties in WV’s eastern panhandle to jump ship and head to Maryland or Virginia. Are these counties so enamored with WV’s 75%+ hardcore conservative values that they are willing to help anchor a sinking ship? Sounds like it!

comment below how this will be exactly like conference realignment in NCAA football and we can expect Pittsburgh to jump next. BUT WHO WILL PA GET TO REPLACE THEM???

I live in one of those counties and for a variety of reasons that are mostly bureaucratic red tape I definitely don't want to deal with being part of WV. Also, this is just the red leaders of the counties running their mouths. They interviewed some business owners and locals up by the lake and one of them was like "how's about instead of moving around state lines, we fix gerrymandering first? that'd solve a lot of problems"

Gerrymandering sucks when either side does it. The second article I posted said one of these deep red counties has a Dem representing them because of gerrymandering. That sucks.

But yes, you do not want to become part of West Virginia. The only state that might want to is way too far south to be annexed.

Thank God for Mississippi.
