Seems to me Nintendo kind of missed the boat with no forcing out more Mario World games. If you figure the SNES came out with SMW 1 in 1991 and you give that game 2 years to sell the system and prosper and then fire away with SMW2 in 1993 instead of half ass crap like Mario is Missing. SMW 2 didn't come out til 94 or 95 and IMO they fiddled way too much w/ the classic Mario game play w/ the Yoshi as baby sitter game play. Had this been maybe a level or even maybe a playable character in SMW 2 I think I'd have liked the game significantly more.

So was there games canceled in the interim or did Nintendo just feel they were in no rush to push out another Mario World game?

SMW2: Yoshi's Island was a pretty fun game, but it didn't really feel like a true sequel or a Mario game, really.

SMW2 is underrated. Outside of crying Mario it's a masterpiece. That said, crying Mario is fucking awful, and it's a shame because the music in the game is great, but you feel the need to mute it to shut Mario up.
