I'm not the most tech savvy person in the world, so when this came up as infected during a recent scan it left me scratching head.

D: \i386\Apps\Apps000013\apps\mps\mpscnfg.cab <McPopup.dll> - win32/ieredirector g

I couldn't isolate it/delete it and a Google search didn't turn up much of anything. I even asked a buddy of mine and he was stumped, although he seems to think it's mostly harmless as long as I don't use Internet Explorer, which I haven't in years. He did recommend I download No Script for FireFox though.

Any idea what it could be? I haven't noticed any issues so far.

Get HijackThis, run the scan, and delete the thing. It is never safe to leave any of that stuff on your computer regardless of the browser you use.

Tried HijackThis and Malwarebytes and neither detected anything. I'm starting to wonder if this was a false alarm.

I think you may be right, it is probably a wayward tracking cookie that your software caught and deleted, I googled it and it does not seem that it is very malicious.

It still pops up every time I run an anti-virus scan. Should I still be concerned? Probably a dumb question I know, just want to be sure I'm not at risk. I've even thought downloading a different AV program to see if I could delete it that way.
