AXS has another wrestling show premiering in a few weeks. From Executive Producer Jeanie Buss, Women of Wrestling

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YdBF2t75pE

Teaser is very Tessa Blanchard centric, which I am good with. Every time I see her in Impact, I still can't figure out why WWE didn't scoop her up.

This has been teased for a while but now that this is on the horizon, figured it was thread worthy. Let's see if anyone besides myself and Mr. Slim Citrus post in here.

Bumping the thread for the debut tonight - thoughts when I get around to watching it but if anyone else watched, the thread is here

Starting this up now. I like Santana Garrett but Tessa just comes off as a next level star across from her. But I mark for Tessa.

SHowing Santana's dad so much made me uncomfortable - he looks awful. Which is probably the point to build sympathy on her because this definitely has the GLOW vibe. Trying not to laugh that David McClain sounds like John Michael Higgins. I wish they booked John Michael Higgins for this.

Production is really slick. Looks better than a lot of the other promotions on TV like Impact and ROH.

The female ring announcer is solid but not feeling the commentators so far, they make it feel a little more low rent than the rest of the presentation. The little video package for Stephy Slays versus The Beast at least shows that they have some interesting and creative storytelling but the in-ring so far has been pretty ugly.

Governor's Daughter heel gimmick seems like some cheesy goodness. The worker looks like a mix between Madison Rayne and Dana Brooke to me. Thought the promo package for Kiera Hogan's Fire character was good but feel they went overkill on the gimmick itself once the match was in play - make it her backstory, fine. Trying to figure out when this was filmed because even Kiera seems sloppier than I ever remember seeing her on Impact.

Was impressed with Eye Candy's moonsault but I need a gif of that dorky teenager dancing with her after the match

I don't know what WoW was doing before this TV deal but this definitely feels like someone really got into GLOW on Netflix before producing this season. Not complaining, it's been a solid debut episode. Watching more than I expected but definitely leaning into the hopes of catching that fan base more than the normal wrestling fan, IMO.

Oh man - Tessa tying up the oxygen tubes of Santana's dad... if Vince doesn't want her after that, he never will.

Fun first episode that established a ton of characters and set some stories for the season. Not the best in-ring product but worth a look.

I'm watching it now. Tessa is the best in the business right now, no question about it. She can go in the ring, and she's a star on the mic. The commentary is pretty bad, and I don't like how the ring is mic'd. The slams sound so loud. The wrestling is much better than it used to be, so that's a great positive.

Also, Santana's dad died recently, so watching those segments are really, really uncomfortable right now.

That's Shaul Guerrero, daughter of Eddie and Vickie.

Eye Candy is a local wrestler from where I live, Willow Nightingale. It's weird seeing the legit talent they got and changing the names. The roster is pretty damn stacked. Tessa Blanchard and Santana Garrett lead the charge. But they have Barbie Hayden (the Governor's Daughter), Kiera Hogan (Fire), Harlow O'Hara, Willow Nightingale, Jessica Havok, Amber O'Neal, Thunder Rosa, Holidea, Katrina. That's a hell of a roster. And they have Shaul Guerraro as ring announcer.

Wow, didn't know that was Shaul. Think she did some ring announcing in FCW, so that may be why she had some more polish and seemed to know what she was doing.

I heard them reference Amber O'Neal is going by a new name now during the main event so guessing this is like a soft reboot of whatever was going on before to be more "GLOW-like" as I speculated.

You're not going to get a 20 minute mat classic on these shows, but as you mentioned, the production is very good, and the wrestling will be really solid. This should do well for AXS.

Just watched the first episode and agree with everyone's sentiment. I really like the production and energy on this show. Definitely feels like a 1980s territory wrestling show with 2019 production (and almost entirely ladies instead of almost entirely dudes)

Curious how long that the rebooted WOW has been running? Cause this was first episode on AXS but they didn't treat it like a premiere really at all and they said it had same continuity as the WOW from the early '00s. Plus they showed like clips from recent episodes and talked about how Santana Garrette. Like WHERE THE EFF HAS THIS SHOW BEEN AIRING!? WHERE DOES DAVID MCLANE GET HIS MONEY!?

Speaking of David McLane, it's been a while since we've had an enjoyably bad color commentator so his presence on this show was appreciated.

Also disappointed that David mentioned RVD being in the crowd but we didn't get a closeup of him stoned/confused hanging out.

Also since Jeannie Buss is the owner of WOW, I'm really hoping we get a crowd shot of an incredulous Javale McGee and/or Lance Stephenson watching the action in a future episode.

Just getting to last week now. They did not even try to cover The Lioness Lip Syncing. Still trying to figure out if that was good or bad corny but corny nonetheless.

And just as I get done posting that, we see The Disciplinarion with her manager Samantha Smart come out looking more like a porn act than a wrestling act. Until they showed her awkwardly scaring the little girl, I guess.

last few episodes have crossed the corny line for me. I'll pop in occasionally but characters like those two and the MAGA heel were just the type of thing to make me mildly embarrassed to be a wrestling fan.

And the commentary team is so bad it's good in small doses but actually just horrible after watching a few episodes.

No GI Hoe......yet! Seems inevitable with the wacky gimmicks they have going on.

Week by week the show is getting less interesting, but it still has that GLOW corniness that was a staple from before. Even in the 2000s when McClane actually launched WOW(E) it had that same feel, so as long as it stays in that wacky corny zany vernacular, I think they will always have that niche covered.

Particularly, what gets me as that is their vignettes trying to introduce some of these characters. Terrible acting, terrible direction, but entertaining enough. Also, McClane constantly interrupting what little flow the commentary has is jarring as fuck.

The one positive is that I never have never found, much less read any spoilers for these shows, so everything is kind of a surprise a bit.

This has definitely become a speed watch as it was pointed out, there’s a lot of embarrassing to be a wrestling fan content.

I will admit that damn stupid WE FLEX song Faith the Lioness does is soncorny bad that it has been stuck in my head all morning despite watching this days ago.

Flipped through my DVR this morning and saw the Season 2 premiere.

If it weren't for Tessa, this really feels like a promotion that was some rich guy who pays muscly women to dominate him at home promised he would make some stars and put them on TV.

So many Impact talents in here still - Tessa, Havok and Fyre/Kyra Hogan. I can get Tessa being flip-flopped babyface and heel based on these promotions but crazy seeing Fyre/Hogan play two completely different types of characters. Maybe that's why she started doing the blue hair as the heel in Impact.

I find some of the trashy wrestling at its finest entertaining here. The redneck heel MAKE WRASSLIN GREAT AGAIN heel complaining about fans needing safe spaces before comparing her opponents to stereotype cartoon characters stands out in the crowd.

ALICIA EDWARDS IS HERE AND SHE IS SASSY MASSY

SASSY MASSY

I can't think of anything she does in the ring but she makes me laugh so hard in interviews in Impact, the fact they have her as Sassy Massy - this is going to be good

I wonder what the thought of the producers was to show allt he crowd laughing at the Psycho Sisters. The gimmick is cheesy as hell but the vignette made me believe they want to make them the intimidators and heels. Then we get laughing and they actually got a good pop on the mic when they are going up against the talent they've been trying to push as a new babyface earlier in the show.

Then again, I feel this crowd is mostly people not super familiar with wrestling. Think it is hipsters who think this is ironic or watched GLOW plus like family and kids that are going more in the mold of the people who would wander through WCW tapings at Disney.

They had a match on last weekend's show where real life couple Diamente and Kiera Hogan beat WOW's team of MAGA hillbillies.

David McLane is woke now? ???

Hope she gets the help she needs. She was in the news the other day indicating WWE was holding Eddie‘s name hostage, which I wasn’t sure how that worked when his family has a Pro Wrestling Tees store for him.
