I'm surprised they didn't do Bret-Savage on Raw after their Japan match. It's not like they had any PPV plans for that pairing.
Still one of the most baffling decisions Vince ever made. Hogan I totally understand letting go, because if he's not drawing you can't justify his price tag. But Savage was the prime candidate for the "Babe Ruth role," a mythical position within WWF/E that only ever existed in Vince's head and that no wrestler was ever deemed worthy enough for. And I'm not even sure what it means other than he would be a legend who was the canonical GOAT and Vince would say "HE'S THE BABE RUTH OF THE WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION" on commentary. But Savage could have been that guy, working with Bam Bams and, uh, Jarrett, and OK maybe there weren't enough heels for him to work with that they weren't saving for Bret. But still you can't expect this guy to take the demotion and not take a hard look at the Turner money.
