Pleasantly surprised by Old Ideas, the new Leonard Cohen album. Cohen attempts more singing on this album; at times he growls like Tom Waits (Waits at his most subdued, that is). The smooth female vocals that cropped up on his last couple of records—presumably to offset Cohen's increasingly aged croak—are scaled back here, which is a plus.

This is really, really fantastic. I'm hesitant to type much more at this point, since I've only listened to Visions once, but anyone who enjoyed Halfaxa should definitely give it a shot.

Listening to this now. I'm most pleasantly surprised by the arrangements on this album. Cohen usually struggles with more opulent production, but the strings and pianos on this album suit him very well.

I'm excited to listen to the new Sleigh Bells, as well.

The new Twilight Sad album, No One Can Ever Know, is kind of a departure for them. Less anthemic, more coldly-textured in a post-punk type way. Reminiscent of Radiohead to my ears.

The Twilight Sad - Don't Move

Pretty good. It feels like a grower, as it's not a flashy album.

I had never heard of them until today from some co-workers and then seeing them talked about here. I'll check them out. Seem interesting from what I read about them on wiki.

To be fair, the thing you posted was a pretty low quality demo whose arrangement was way different than it was on the final release and it was bad.

Downloaded both of Sleigh Bells' albums and listened to the new one and most of the first one today. Holy fuck, I love it. To make matters better, Childish Gambino samples a couple of their songs from their first album.

New Sleigh Bells ruuuuuuules. I had enjoyed their first album but written them off as one trick ponies. This, though. This is awesome.

The new Magnetic Fields album is pretty goofy, smug, and off-putting, but I like it anyways. I'm sure that suggests something bad about my personality.

Why the fuck does their band name have to end in a period? Like, the whole "end your band name in an exclamation mark" thing was super obnoxious, and this somehow tops it. Not to mention, "My friends are in the bathroom/Getting higher than the Empire State" is somehow worse than sending a bitch a picture of your diiiiiiick.
