He can't stock the White House briefing room with those people though, right?
It seems like he really wants to live and work out of his penthouse and not at the White House, so who knows what the rules will be?
In fact, tyrants have historically employed four strategies to silence and control the media critical of them during their rise to power. So far, Trump is using all four of them.
1. BERATE THE MEDIA: Turn the public against the media and make them think the press is the enemy ("liars;" "dishonest;" "scum," etc.).
2. LIMIT MEDIA ACCESS: Trump shuts the press out of his meetings and events and marginalizes them. They can't travel with him and don't even know who he's meeting with. Presidents/Presidents-Elect typically hold a press conference a couple days after the election. This recent one was Trump's first since July.
3. THREATEN THE MEDIA: "I'll open up the libel laws!"
4. BYPASS THE MEDIA: Trump goes straight over the press' head by talking directly to the public himself to deliver his message (constant overuse of Twitter, public rallies).
Again, these are things tyrants do to consolidate power and squelch dissent. Trump is employing all these strategies in a textbook style. We should be alarmed.
