That group includes Alfonso Soriano, Joe Carter, Don Baylor and Steve Finley. He's near the bottom of the list in most categories. It's a nice, full resume, but I don't think it's a convincing Hall of Fame argument in its own right. That is not to say McCutchen is not a candidate. He won an MVP, he's someone I hold in high esteem. The problem I see is in career WAR McCutchen is in a group that includes Ellis Burks, Bernie Williams, Curtis Granderson, Torii Hunter, Vada Pinson, Cesar Cedeno, Mike Cameron, Devon White, Fred Lynn, Steve Finley, Amos Otis. You have to give McCutchen every advantage you can to elevate him from that group.
Of that group, I'd probably take at least Bernie, Torii, Mike Cameron, Devon White, and Fred Lynn over McCutchen but several of those are a result of their defensive capabilities too.

White Sox are at the point where you flash the no-hitter alert once they reach the second inning.
It’s April 21 and they’re 12.5 games out.

The Astros are 7-16. Not an insurmountable deficit, they’re only 4.5 out of the division oddly. But they’re last in the league in runs allowed and that has to be concerning.

The White Sox have scored 45 runs this season. Shutout 7 times.

Next lowest scoring team is the A's at 63

All time record for most times being shut out during the season is the 1908 St. Louie Cardinals with 33.

White Sox are on pace to be shutout 59 times!

$10 tickets for the White Sox friday night vs Tampa Bay.

If that's too much, next Wednesday get away game at 1 pm vs Twins, $7, $5 senior citizen discount.

They’re offering $29 ticket and a beer promotion for Red Sox Vs Giants next Thursday. Beer probably accounts for more of the cost of that ticket that than the game.

Bryan Bello to the IL.

GD. Despite a surprisingly decent record, Idk if the Red Sox could have had a worse first month.

The '88 Orioles started 1-23. Three teams started the season 3-21. The 2024 White Sox, the 2022 Reds and the 2003 Tigers. Surprisingly none of those teams reached the playoffs.

Looking up those teams did show me the 1969 Houston Astros. Started the season 4-20. They proceeded to go 20-6 in May. They peaked in September at 75-65, reached as close as two games of the division lead and ultimately finished 81-81.

And of course you have the 1914 Boston Braves. 5-18 (one tie). Won the World Series.

Reverse jinx! White Sox swept the Rays at the Cell this weekend and if the Nationals hold on to beat the Marlins this afternoon, South Siders won’t even have the worst record in MLB so far this season.

Mike Trout is officially the baseball version of J.J. Watt now... MVP Candidate if he played an entire regular season but he keeps getting injured every single season for various lengths of time. Since the end of the 2020 season, he's played 266 games (including 29 this season) out of a possible 648.

Mets are calling up their top pitching prospect .Christian Scott. Adrian Houser looks to be exiting the rotation as he's been one of if not the worst pitcher in baseball

We saw this play out with Ken Griffey Jr. (which was twenty years ago?!). Charlie Keller might be a good older example.

Okay I'm getting concerned with Edwin Diaz's drop in velocity and lack of sharpness on his breaking pitches

Mets are a complete mess right now.

Lost 10 out of 14

The Paul Skenes hype had me looking at the records of Bob Feller. Skenes and his ilk are of course college prospects. Feller joined the Cleveland Indians out of high school, just seventeen years old. In the modern era there are three types of underage pitchers. Bonus babies (like a rule 5 pick), WWII fill-ins, and Feller. But Feller wasn't just a teenager on a roster. He struck out batters at a higher rate than anyone else in the league. Feller's K/9 was 11.0. The next highest K/9 in the American League (min. 20 IP) was his teammate Johnny Allen, at 6.1. Take Lebron James lever of hype for a teenager and that was Feller. The more time passes I think that story gets away.

Post script. Looking up the stats I came across a pitcher named Pete Naktenis. Pitched for the Philadelphia A's in 1936. He struck out 18 batters in 18 2/3 IP. But he walked 27 batters and gave up 26 runs. There's virtually nothing out there on him besides his stats. But if it weren't for him I wouldn't have needed an innings qualifier.
