Tyler Breeze vs. Angelo Dawkins
Breeze shows his aggressive side, taking Dawkins to the outside for a bite of dasher board before taking him back in and BLASTING him with the Beauty Shot for the pin. That’s the best one he’s hit so far. Breeze tosses him and grabs his phone and a mic. He really didn’t want to wrestle, just to show everyone Adrian Neville falling off the turnbuckle last week, which Tyler deems “hilarious”. He has a MONUMENTAL ANNOUNCEMENT, that will trend WORLDWIDE: he has submitted his music video for Oscar consideration!! #TheOscargoestoTyler! This leads to Tyler wanting to show it again, but as I scramble to make the popcorn, Neville interrupts. English philistine. He wants to know when Tyler will want his damn title shot already. They do some 21st century social media themed dissing (yes, I just used that word) with Neville insinuating Tyler’s mother does lewd things on Snapchat before kicking the shit out of him and sending Tyler packing.
Thoughts: Great segment. Tyler is strongly put over in his match and then we get an entertaining promo followed by an entertaining physical bit. I want to see this match real bad now, so mission accomplished.
JoJo(!) interviews Natalya about Adam Rose’s appearance tonight, but #DirtbagTysonKidd (it’s gonna be a thing!) isn’t impressed. Fact. So he challenges Rose. Fact. This show is already leagues better than last week. Fact.
Phillips announces a NXT #1 CONTENDER TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT!! Fuck yeah! The first round starts next week.
Tyler Breeze has left the building. #Oscar
Charlotte vs. Becky Lynch
Becky has dumped the Riverdancing for a Lita 2.0 look. Fun, fast paced opening before Charlotte cuts her off with a forearm and goes after the knee. Becky definitely has a real fire to her now and it improves her character tenfold. Charlotte is also showing great aggressive heel tendencies (I guess she’s still a heel?). Becky with the comeback but Charlotte goes to the knee again and Bow Down to the Queen ends it.
Thoughts: Fun match showing improvement from both women. Seeing Charlotte this week and comparing it to that borefest last week shows what a good opponent can do to improve your match.
Mojo Rawley is looking for a tag partner for the tournament. Bull Dempsey appears and offers his services. Oh good, Mojo’s gonna die.
The Ascension squash another jobber team. This tournament can’t end soon enough to take the titles off these guys. They vow to beat whoever wins the tournament.
We recap the CJ Parker/Xavier Woods rivalry. They face off next week.
Mojo Rawley & Bull Dempsey vs The Mechanics (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder)
Bull and Dash lockup into the corner and Mojo selfishly tags himself in. Of course that leads to him getting worked over. What an idiot. Let the adults handle things, Mojo. He comes back and gets the tag to Bull, who finishes with the Throwback for the win. Mojo celebrates like he did something.
Thoughts: I eagerly await when Mojo screws up in the tournament and Bull beats the shit out of him for it. I will savor every moment. And hey, more tag teams!
Bayley!. She isn’t upset about the BFFs breaking up and points out that she beat Charlotte a few weeks ago. She wouldn’t mind a title shot, but Charlotte appears and says mean things. OK, she’s still a heel.
Adam Rose vs. #DirtbagTysonKidd (w/Natalya)
Man, some really bouncy and jiggly Rosebuds in the party tonight. Rose controls with an armbar to start and then goes outside to offer his lollipop to Nattie. Man, this isn’t PG. Kidd rips it out of her hands and lays into Rose, but Rose comes back with a beautiful snap suplex and drops a knee. He sends Kidd to the outside as we take a break.
Kidd fights out of a hold as we return and clotheslines Rose to the outside, running him into the post a couple of times as he is really pissed now. He drops a leg for two. He works Rose over in the corner and hits the chinlock. Rose suplexes his way out of it and makes the comeback. He DRILLS Kidd with a spinebuster for 2. He goes for the Party Foul but Kidd rolls him up and goes for the Sharpshooter, necking Rose with the middle rope as he tries to escape. Kidd kicks him in the mouth on the outside and grabs the lollipop, stopping to yell at Nattie about earlier. As he turns back, Rose surprises him with a roll up for the pin. Kidd looks disgustedly at Natalya as we end the show.
Thoughts: I had very little expectations for this match given how Rose’s matches usually go, but MAN did they make this into a damn good match. Tyson Kidd is on fire right now and Rose really showed that he actually has something in the ring. Very very impressed by both guys in there and it told a good story with Natalya once again unwittingly being a distraction for Kidd.
Final Thoughts: Now THIS is more like it. I figured last week was an aberration as this week we are back to strong character development, good (surprisingly good in one case) matches and we are building to some good future matchups. If last week was a must miss, this week is must watch.
That’s it for this week. @PKIsTwitting or leave a comment. See you next week.
