ECPW On Fire
October 4th, 2014 (Taped ?)
From The Police Athletic Building in Parsippany, New Jersey
Announcer: Charlie Savoldi
Welcome to another edition of ECPW On Fire. For the first time in months, the show is coming from somewhere other than the Paramus Elks Lodge. This week’s show takes place a half hour down the road in Parsippany, New Jersey. Most of the same regulars are at today’s show too. The Parsippany PAL is notable for having the narrowest entrance way I’ve ever seen. Guys are practically walking sideways down the aisle. Good thing Big Bad John isn’t on tonight’s show. He’d probably get stuck.
Mikey Webb Vs Cam Zagrani
I’ve seen Webb here once before. He’s an energetic light heavyweight babyface, most notable thing about him is he wears Ultimate Warrior-esque tights. Haven’t seen Zagrani. Looks like he has a pretty boy heel gimmick. He looks insanely young. He enters by doing a kiss my butt gesture at some kids. Classic heeling! Not sure when this was taped but it was a while back since Charlie Savoldi spends the whole match hyping Wrestling On Fire’s tour of Maine that happened three weeks ago. This show as a whole feels like an informercial for that tour since he spends most of his time hyping that. Felt like a territory era show in that sense where it was trying to drive people out to the show. Which would be fine if they weren’t hyping a show that happened three weeks ago. Anyway, the commentary and the production (some of the video looks like it’s filmed on an old camera) distract from a perfectly fine opener. Webb wins with a flying crossbody. C+
Cruiserweight Gauntlet Match: Kai Katana Vs Matt MacIntosh Vs Ricky Reyes Vs Nunzio Vs Crazy Ivan
Next up, it’s time for our featured match, a five man Cruiserweight Gauntlet. Though three of the participants hold titles (MacIntosh is the ECPW Light Heavyweight Champ, Reyes is the WOF Television Champ, and Ivan is the ECPW Television Champ), this match is non title. Closeup on one of the regulars holding a “Match of the Night” sign. I like all of these guys. MacIntosh and Katana start off. Pacing for the opening seems off. These guys have had good bouts before but it seems like they’re in second gear in this one. Reyes is #3. This match is more of a Royal Rumble type match with pinfall/submission eliminations. Reyes seems a bit off his game too. WWE Superstar Nunzio is #4. Lack of continuity is annoying. Last time we saw Nunzio, he was the special guest referee for the Four Corner Cage Match for the vacant WOF Heavyweight title and he screwed over Apollo to help give Josef Von Schmidt the title. We get absolutely no mention of that and Nunzio is a babyface again because we’re supposed to cheer anybody who was in WWE, I guess. Crazy Ivan is #5. Him and Nunzio have some entertaining spots together. Match picks up with all five guys in the ring a bit. Either it was accidentally edited out or I completely missed it but I don’t know how Nunzio got eliminated. Katana is second eliminated with a diving stomp from MacIntosh. MacIntosh is eliminated with a swinging neckbreaker from Crazy Ivan. Final two is Crazy Ivan and Ricky Reyes, the two TV Champions and we cut to a commercial for Modern Family. That’s it. We don’t see the finish. Hrmph. Hopefully, it’s just an awkward cut and we’ll see part two next week but I have my doubts. Vintage production error here. C
Autumn is here. The leaves are falling. The cider is a pourin. It’s fun to take your favorite four legged friends out to enjoy the foliage but please remember to never feed your dogs Halloween candy. Thanks everyone and have a great week!
