March 1987, Monday, Week 3
Chris Adams got into an argument with a fan prior to the show last night and had to be restrained before things got physical. There are conflicting stories as to what caused it but most are saying the fan was out of line.
Last night’s taping drew a crowd of 4,690 which was just a couple hundred short of capacity. Every report we received said the taping was very good.
Bill Irwin failed a drug test last night and was fined his entire payoff from last night. No word as to which drug was in system although I was told it was soft drugs of some sort.
Despite how green Sid Steele is (and it showed horribly in his match with The Missing Link last night), many are seeing him as the future of the business.
March 1987, Tuesday, Week 3
We are hearing rumors of a major negotiation ongoing with the UWF and a major TV company. When we hear more, we’ll report it here, but I’m hearing there are no additional weekly shows in development.
March 1987, Wednesday, Week 3
The UWF announced a “Ghetto Street Fight” for the Superblast card next month with Iceman King Parsons taking on Savannah Jack. I would expect a description of the match to be given on TV this weekend.
March 1987, Thursday, Week 3
The negotiation we were talking about a few days ago appears to be in regards to getting next month’s Superblast show on TV in some form. Negotiations for pay-per-view with Cablevision fell through with Cablevision basically not knowing anything outside the WWF. Closed circuit is out as the WWF has an exclusive agreement for closed circuit distribuition in the U.S. and Canada. There are still negotiations ongoing with Shaw Cable in Canada for pay-per-view access but I can’t see that being profitable as a whole.
March 1987, Friday, Week 3
There are still rumors abound that Steve Williams may return to the UWF for a shot at the One Man Gang at Superblast next month. I would not expect Williams to appear as he is booked for New Japan that weekend.
March 1987, Saturday, Week 3
The UWF has announced Chris Adams and Terry Taylor will defend the UWF Tag Team Title against Sting and Iceman King Parsons at the TV taping tomorrow night.
March 1987, Sunday, Week 3
Ratings held steady on KWTV for Power Pro Wrestling at a 0.04.
UWF Power Pro Wrestling live coverage (March 1987, Sunday, Week 3)
Live coverage from the Tulsa Convention Center. Looks to be about 80% full.
Art Crews, Black Bart, Eli the Eliminator, Ted DiBiase and The Fantastics are missing from the taping as they are booked elsewhere tonight.
The show opened with Bill Watts announcing that Terry Taylor has not arrived at the building yet due to a transportation issue. He is on the way to the building but we’re not sure if he’ll make it before the match begins.
In an extremely short match, Gary Young defeated Action Jackson in 1:28 by pinfall with a Piledriver. The two men don’t click at all.
It’s time for the tag team title match, but Chris Adams comes to the ring alone. Eddie Gilbert demands the belts be handed over to Sting and Iceman King Parsons since Taylor is unable to compete. Ken Mantell comes to the ring and asks for the belts, but Adams reminds Mantell that per UWF rules he has the option to defend the titles by himself and will do so rather than simply hand the titles over. This match will be one fall with TV time remaining, so about 45 minutes remaining assuming this is the final match.
Sting and Parsons defeated Adams by disqualification in 10:04. One of the best handicap matches I’ve ever seen. Adams goes for a lot of quick pins early and controls about the first four minutes or so before the challengers take advantage when Parsons lands a knee to the back behind referee Carl Fergie’s back. This led to the challengers repeatedly double teaming Adams, busting him open. Late in the match, Fergie appears ready to stop the match with Adams begging him to let the match continue. At this point Taylor finally arrives to a huge pop, still carrying his suitcase, and he comes into the ring and levels Parsons and Sting with the suitcase for the DQ to save the titles. The crowd heavily booed the decision and many hated the DQ and some didn’t understand that Taylor was technically not part of the match at that point.
Leroy Brown defeated Mike George in 1:49 by pinfall with a Piledriver.
Savannah Jack defeated UWF Television Champion Eddie Gilbert in 2:27 when Gilbert was disqualified when Iceman King Parsons ran in and attacked Jack. Parsons beat Jack down for several minutes and left him a bloody mess inside the ring.
The Lightning Express defeated The Sheepherders in 3:27 when Butch Miller was disqualified for hitting Brad Armstrong with a baseball bat. Both teams wound up brawling to the back. The brawl might have been longer than the match. With this being the second DQ of the night, the crowd hated this but the brawl won a lot of them back over.
Joe Savoldi defeated Jeff Gaylord in 1:45 by submission. Management is very high on Gaylord so I’d call this a bit of an upset.
Sam Houston (wBaby Doll) defeated Angel of Death in 2:26 by pinfall with a Steer Buster.
Jim Ross interviews The Fabulous Freebirds. Ross reveals that the Freebirds will be forced to compete twice at Superblast, in a six man tag against yet to be determined opponents, and then in separate action as well. Hayes calls it a conspiracy but says they’ll beat anybody they are put against, specifically mentioning Chavo Guerrero and The Missing Link while Ross also mentions The Angel of Death and Bill Irwin.
The Fabulous Freebirds (Hayes and Terry Gordy w/Sunshine) defeated Big Bubba Rogers and One Man Gang (w/Skandar Akbar) in 2:32 when Hayes pinned Rogers. Gang walked out on Rogers without checking on him as Akbar looked on in disgust.
Another very good show. This company is firing on all cylinders as of late.
