WWE NXT – 08/21/2013
This week’s show opens with a video package of the history between Antonio Cesaro and Sami Zayn. Tonight is the Two out of Three Falls Match that has been talked about since being filmed weeks ago.
Tom Phillips introduces us to the show and lets us know that he and Alex Riley will provide commentary tonight as Dolph Ziggler is here but Bayley’s music hits first to signal this week’s guest appearance by WWE Divas Champion, AJ Lee.
AJ Lee comes out and the crowd loves her.
Byron Saxton delivers in-ring intros for both competitors.
WWE Divas Championship Match
Bayley vs. AJ Lee (WWE Divas Champion)
Bayley comes out wanting to hug AJ. AJ looks disturbed and Bayley instead offers a handshake. The crowd at Full Sail starts chanting “Hug it out!” as AJ grabs Bayley by the head and throws her down.
AJ delivers some slams with authority and completes destroys Bayley. She starts choking Bayley and starts shouting “I’m sorry! I’m hugging your neck now!”
AJ throws an elbow and after a quick kickout, seems irritated by Bayley.
AJ goes for a splash in the corner, which allows an opening for Bayley… to give AJ a hug. Bayley keeps hugging AJ and in turn, smashing her into the corner. Phillips makes a Dr. Shelby reference.
Bayley gives AJ a bodyslam and looks very excited. She runs and drops a knee for an unsuccessful cover.
Bayley tries to make a few quick covers and gets upset as there are dueling “Let’s Go Bayley”, “Let’s Go AJ” chants.
Bayley hits a diving elbow and looks concerned that she may have hurt AJ, who is holding her mouth. As she checks on the Divas Champion, AJ gives her a swift kick, nails a Shining Wizard and celebrates her victory.
Winner: AJ Lee
AJ clutches her championship and heads up the ramp.
Tyler Breeze is backstage on his phone and asks some random blonde to take a picture of him. CJ Parker sneaks in again and makes some awful faces that are supposed to be funny while giving him bunny ears. Breeze sees the picture and is very disturbed by the photobomb, claiming it has ruined his life.
Match graphic for the 2 out of 3 falls contest, later in the show.
Michael Zaki and Ron Hicks are in the ring. My fears were confirmed and Zaki is actually the annoying New Jersey guy from the most recent season of Tough Enough.
Luckily this appears to be a squash as the entrance for The Ascension begins.
O’Brian and Victor march to the ring and do their growl pose thing which usually lasts as long as their matches.
Michael Zaki & Ron Hicks vs. The Ascension
Riley states he doesn’t know much on Hicks and knows less on Zaki but these are the guys to make a name on.
O’Brian and Annoying Tough Enough Zaki start off and Conor just destroys him. After downing and choking Zaki, he makes a quick tag to Victor, who smashes Victor in the corner.
For the first time, it is mentioned The Ascension is on the hunt for the tag titles of Graves and Neville. The two hit a series of double team moves and the match ends with no Hicks involvement and no offense from Zaki.
Winner: The Ascension
Noticeably in the background, I can see Hicks standing outside just holding his head in disbelief. Kinda awesome.
Another match graphic for Zayn-Cesaro.
Match graphic for CJ Parker’s debut, promoting how we’ve seen him in video bombs.
Baron Corbin is hanging out in the ring and gets some decent applause.
We get Tye Dye and hippie music and CJ Parker comes out grooving. This entrance may be even more annoying than the photobomb segments. He is announced as residing in the Moonchild Commune and the announcers make fun of him a little bit.
Baron Corbin vs. CJ Parker
Corbin wraps up Corbin but as they break away, Parker flashes a peace sign.
Parker starts running the ropes and gets knocked down by Corbin, as we hear about his NFL experience with the Colts and Cardinals.
Parker delivers a kick to the face and a clothesline before starting to walk like Captain Jack Sparrow.
Parker does some poses, hits what appears to be his finisher and the crowd seemingly lacks reaction as he starts shuffling around the ring again.
Winner: CJ Parker
Renee hits the ring and starts interviewing CJ on where he’s been. He starts rambling about where hasn’t he been, he’s found what he’s been looking for and cuts a promo about going with the flow and having fun.
She questions his photobomb and he tells her to mellow out, as bomb is extreme, this is video loving.
Tyler Breeze has his music hit and he hits the ring furiously. He really amps up the Zoolander act in his speech this week. He wasn’t as blatantly talking like Zoolander in previous segments.
Parker tells Breeze to CHILLAX. Breeze calls Parker a Lenny Kravitz wannabe and is somehow coming across as a bigger face in this segment.
A promo airs to tell us that Dolph Ziggler is up next.
Alexander Rusev makes his way out in some getup that is apparently supposed to represent his Muy Thai-Sumo background. He has a board with ZIGGLER written on it that he breaks over his knee.
HERE TO SHOW THE WORLD hits and the crowd loses it. Dolph seems extra pumped and as he does his usual ring entrance, he shoos off the ref and Rusev.
Alexander Rusev vs. Dolph Ziggler
As Rusev tries to gain position on a shuffling Ziggler, the crowd chants THAT WAS AWESOME.
Dolph starts the match with a rollup. As they get back up, Rusev quickly downs Ziggler. Ziggler gets up and uses his speed to get by and the crowd loves as he gyrates to Rusev’s disapproval.
Rusev continues to slowly stalk Dolph before they lock up.
Alexander shoves Dolph back and starts growling and stomping. Dolph talks his time getting up and lays him in the head with a nasty dropkick. They get back up and Dolph gets caught by Rusev, who tosses him over the top rope and celebrates in the ring.
The Bulgarian Powerhouse gets Ziggler back in the ring and measures up the former Heavyweight Champion. Rusev smashes him in the corner for a two count.
Phillips mentions not many men have beaten Dolph, which makes me laugh.
Rusev does what appears to be a reverse bearhug. Dolph breaks free and dodges a charge from Rusev. Dolph splashes him in the corner and delivers another dropkick for a two count.
Rusev takes down Ziggler and starts yelling. He stands above Dolph yelling and Ziggler kicks his leg out before connecting with a Famouser.
Another power move by Rusev, another kickout.
Rusev has a near tantrum as the replay airs and Ziggler lays still on the mat. Rusev pulls Ziggler to the center of the ring and ascends to the top rope.
The announcers are surprised about the 300-pounder climbing to the top. He goes for a big splash and misses, back up, Dolph nails the Zig Zag.
Winner: Dolph Ziggler
Dolph celebrates with the crowd and poses in the ring.
Another hype graphic for Zayn-Cesaro.
A quick video shows the NXT wrestlers at Summerslam Axxess.
Sami Zayn makes his way out to the ring first.
Cesaro next. Both men all business but Zayn dives outside on Cesaro before his entrance finishes.
Best Two out of Three Falls
Sami Zayn vs. Antonio Cesaro
Sami charges him right away and is able to get a roll up.
Winner of First Fall: Sami Zayn
Zayn is attacking Cesaro viciously on the outside. He smashes Antonio’s head on the apron and rolls in to break the count.
Cesaro starts throwing fists on the outside before Zayn gets control and rolls him back in. Cesaro delivers a hard blow to Zayn, who follows it up with a kick and failed pin attempt.
Zayn is blasting him with punches in the corner before Antonio uses his strength to break free.
Zayn gets to the top and delivers the crossbody for two.
Sami tries to whip Cesaro, who reverses it to drop Sami face first into the turnbuckle before pummeling him with more fists.
Cesaro finally gets a chance to breath and starts punching Zayn in the corner. He locks on a headlock, which Zayn tries to fight out of by backing Antonio into the corner. After backing him down a few times, Zayn gets free, only to get caught in a Cesaro powerbomb for a two-count.
The Swiss Superman stalks the former El Generico and locks him up again. Zayn creates some space with a chinbreaker and charges Antonio only to get knocked down.
Cesaro stomps Sami, who is struggling to get back in the match. He delivers chops and Cesaro starts asking for more. Cesaro catches him and tosses Sami with ease, before relying on some more fists to the face.
Cesaro starts carrying Zayn around by his waist in gutwrench position but Sami works in a rollup for two.
Sami runs the ropes and nails a hurricanrana for another nearfall.
With only one fall down, both men are showing some wear. Sami starts to get some momentum back and after a dropkick starts to square up Antonio for a bigger move. He charges Cesaro and the former United States champion catch Zayn in a nasty chinlock. Zayn starts to fade and taps out!
Winner of the Second Fall: Antonio Cesaro
As the ref tries to get Zayn back in the match, Cesaro paces the ring and the crowd lets out a loud “WE THE PEOPLE”. The crowd starts a dueling “Let’s Go Sami”/”We The People”.
As the third fall starts, Cesaro charges Zayn and lays him out.
Cesaro grabs Zayn by the ear and Sami fights out. Sami stands on the apron as Antonio gets onto the second rope and does a variation superplex for a two-count.
Cesaro grabs Zayn by the head and starts yelling at Zayn. Sami tries for a small package but Cesaro uses his strength to stop it.
The two exchange counters and both men are down on the mat while the crowd chants THIS IS AWESOME.
Zayn staggers toward Cesaro and goes to whip him but Antonio stops it. Antonio starts clubbing Zayn. Zayn nails a flipping, diving powerbomb. Two count and Antonio uses his instincts to roll out of the ring, away from danger.
Both men outside, Zayn does a running dive at Cesaro. Antonio catches him but Sami counters it into a spinning DDT onto the concrete.
Sami rolls in the ring while the referee has a count at six. Cesaro dives in the ring, avoiding countdown just in the nick of time. Zayn tries an unsuccessful pin and gets up as Anotnio is down.
Zayn tries using the top rope to do a spinning DDT again. Antonio uses his strength to block it. He runs around carrying Zayn, tosses him in the air for the nasty uppercut. Cesaro locks in The Neutralizer to win the third fall and the match!
Winner: Antonio Cesaro
The crowd goes nuts as Cesaro stumbles around the replays air of the major moments in the match.
This match had a lot of hype and the crazy moments of the third fall definitely lived up to it.
Cesaro stands tall above Zayn and the crowd is still going nuts, chanting WE THE PEOPLE with Antonio before starting a “Match of the Year” chant, as Cesaro pretends to kick dirt on Sami to close the show.
