This was the original bracket revealed on TV, which may lend credence to the story that Dibiase was originally planned to win the tournament. Do they still do the DDQ with Hogan/Andre in this case, and if so who gets the finals run? Or do they do a screwy finish with Hogan in the finals?

The 3 hour Macho Man comp the WWE Vault put out has a Steamer vs Savage house show match. There's a fun moment where Savage goes to murder Steamboat with a ring bell again and a fan jumps the rail to save our hero. He gets tackled right away and never gets near Macho.

It's very WWF that we got 5 Savage vs George Steele matches on major TV/PPVs and one Steamboat/Savage clash.

Would've been a good way to get Kamala another good match to join Danielson and the cage match vs Andre.

I'm probably off by a year but throw Sika in and it's genuinely great.

(referring to the cameo in the clip above)

Despite being two of my favorite things ever, I'm glad they never crossed paths despite it being very possible when both were their biggest.

But then who would Koko, and the bird Frankie, remind us of?

I do think Garvin should've gotten a WM 6 spot, though, especially coming off a ppv win at the Rumble.

The week leading up to Hogan/Andre being announced on Piper's Pit the Silverdome had sold already sold 17,000 seats.
That's a solid number for most arenas, but this is a stadium. Nonetheless, that was the baseline before anything was truly "announced" although most of the top matches could be figured out for most viewers. The Jan SNME basically laid out the undercard.
Meltz at the time declared it a one match show, obviously dismissing any mass appeal for Dragon/Savage, Piper/Adonis, and to a lesser extent Harts/Bulldogs (The tag match was ambiguous at first before the six man aspect came into play), JYD/Race and Jerk/Herc.

To be fair Piper/Adonis was "bombing" as a main event at house shows and that MAY be why they switched to six man main events at the house shows leading up to the event.

Watching a bit of the WM 9 build on Superstars. They played up Duggan returning to come after Yoko pretty hard. U have to think the fans should assume Bret would retain so Duggan/Yoko could go forward.

Vince is being just OBNOXIOUS with the screaming commentary.

I was awaiting Lawler saying something really racist during Kamala's match, but alas he was more cartoon than cunt.

Bret and Yoko have yet to sign their contract for Mania with 2 weeks to go. Seems like Jack Tunney is slipping.

Hogan talks about sweating on women while getting his pump on.

Bigelow has a good line for his promo for Kamala. Bigelow represents what Kamala and his tribe fear the most... FIRE!

Apparently after Rumble 89, Ron Garvin and Martel worked a program for the house shows. I wonder why they didn't bother to just have Garvin do the job at Mania 6?
Prime Time Wrestling – 1/29/90: Dino Bravo (w/ Jimmy Hart & the Canadian Earthquake) pinned Ron Garvin at 3:19 when the momentum of a crossbody off the top by Garvin put Bravo on top for the win; after the bout, Earthquake attacked Garvin in the ring and twice hit the sit-down splash; moments later, medical personnel arrived ringside and helped Garvin backstage on a stretcher

WWF @ New York City, NY – Madison Square Garden – February 19, 1990 (13,800)
Earthquake pinned Ron Garvin at 7:35 with the sit-down splash; after the bout, Garvin sustained three more sit-down splashes before being taken backstage on a stretcher (Earthquake’s MSG debut)

The Ultimate Challenge – 3/25/90
Earthquake (w/ Jimmy Hart) pinned Ron Garvin at 4:59 with the sit-down splash; after the bout Earthquake gave Garvin two more sit-down splashes, with Garvin then being taken out on a stretcher

Well, at least they found an angle they like for Rugged Ronnie....

WWE Vault just uploaded WM3 in full and it's been decades since I've watched that show from beginning to end (usually just cut to Savage/Steamboat and the main event). Looking forward to revisiting.

I also saw they uploaded Shawn/Diesel from WM11. That match was 30 minutes?!?!? THe video must contain the celebrity antics in the beginning/end. I wonder if they include Shawn flipping out on a photographer for getting in his way.

There was a rumor that they switched Pamela from HBK to Diesel because Tommy Lee threatened to kick his ass for all those promos he cut with her leading to the event where he's over her.

That was just a rumor started to build up the show, as I understand it. The plan always was for Pam to come out with Diesel since Diesel was the top face. Besides McCarthy is a natural heel so it evened out.

1995 is my favorite Shawn year and while I like the Diesel match, it just doesn't work like it should. It's like the Austin match where it's really good but not what it was intended to be, I guess. As a kid I didn't think Shawn had a chance and wrote the main event off.

Yeah I watched it today and there's 10 minutes between Nick Tuturro's entrance, JTT coming out and the entrances of the competitors.

Rewatched the Dumpster Match from WM14.

It gets a bit silly in parts and the spot here Funk bruises his hip is brutal but it's still extremely crazy for WWE at the time. So funny to remember that Gunn was in the pre-show at the previous Mania and here he is bumping all over the place for Foley and Terry Funk.

I love that match. It's goofy as fuck but it's a **** in the bingo hall.

14 period is so much fun top to bottom. It's very similar to 6 where I never feel like my time is being wasted unless it's by the guy with the singer gimmick.

I love Austin/Shawn and Owen/HHH a lot. The dumpster match is by far the most fun on the show with the only negative really being that retroactive sense of seeing how it inspired much lesser matches.

I like the Summerslam 2000 sprint the most but 14 is by far the best objectively, I think. But I gotta be in the right mood to appreciate it.
