Tonight is only the 2nd time in NHL history that all 32 teams will be playing a game. Also people are already treating Connor Bedard like he's the new Connor McDavid.

Joe Thornton announced his retirement from the NHL. I remember when he debuted with Boston and thinking he/Samsonov/Guerin would be a great trio for years to come lol.

"Selected by the Boston Bruins with the No. 1 pick in the 1997 NHL Draft, Thornton is 12th in NHL history with 1,539 points (430 goals, 1,109 assists), seventh in assists and sixth in games played (1,714). He played for the Panthers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Sharks and Bruins.

Thornton had 134 points (32 goals, 102 assists) in 187 playoff games.

He played for San Jose for 15 seasons from 2005-2020 and ranks first in Sharks history in assists (804), second in points (1,055), third in games (1,104) and fourth in goals (251). The Sharks qualified for the postseason in 13 of his 15 seasons, including making the Stanley Cup Final in 2016, when they lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins in six games.

Thornton won the Hart Trophy voted as the most valuable player in the NHL and the Art Ross Trophy as the top scorer in 2005-06, when he had 125 points (29 goals, 96 assists) in 81 games for the Bruins and Sharks."

Oakland As: we have the worst ownership in all of North American professional sports.

Arizona Coyotes: Hold my Sanka.
Glad to finally see this move as Arizona seemed like such an odd place to plop down an NHL team (but knowing Bettman and his NBA roots and desire to expand the game out west, it also wasn't too surprising). Utah seems like a good spot considering the area and success of teams like Colorado (and Denver's collegiate success) too. I mainly associate the Coyotes with Wayne Gretzky's mediocre run as HC in the mid 2000s.

"The plan is for the team to play at the Delta Center, which is owned by Smith and is also home to the NBA's Jazz. However, sources told ESPN that the NHL has made clear to the Smiths that a hockey-specific upgrade is needed at the Delta Center in order to become the team's permanent home.

Smith already has government support. A bill was passed in the Utah State Senate to help fund a renovated entertainment district downtown in anticipation of an NHL franchise. The bill already has approval from Utah Gov. Spencer Cox."

"In February, Bettman noted that several other cities, including Atlanta, Cincinnati, Houston and Kansas City, are also vying for expansion teams, but described Utah’s approach as the “most aggressive.”

Just give us the Coyotes. We'll rename them the Aeros and we'll fix the mistake that was made decades ago.

McDavid notched 100 assists this season, a truly bonkers statistical achievement. Nikita Kucherov also has a chance to hit that mark as he's sitting at 99 Assists with a game tonight.

"Orr did it once, becoming the first NHL player to achieve the feat in 1970-71. Lemieux also hit the mark once, in 1988-89. Gretzky topped 100 assists in a season 11 times and is the all-time NHL leader in career assists with 1,963. Gretzky was the last player before McDavid to have 100 assists, in the 1990-91 season."

Toronto and Nashville ain't dead yet while Colorado and Carolina won their games 6-3 and advance in the NHL playoffs. Edmonton has a chance to move on if they can beat the LA Kings tonight.

Bruins are now something like 0-6 in their last game to clinch a series or something baffling. Toronto's tied the series up at 3-3 with Game 7 on Saturday. What the hell is going on with this team @King Kamala and why can't they close things out?

Bruins finally got knocked out by Florida with issues that plagued them all series... couldn't get the puck out of their own zone, turning the puck over, and going for quality shots over quantity by making too many passes and trying to just get too cute in Florida's zone. That works against lesser teams but physical teams like Florida will challenge the puck and get after the bodies.

Swayman played great as he always does but the Bruins defense really let him down and offensively they just struggled, very rarely putting the puck on net during the few power plays they actually were able to get.

So so sad. The real life side is so senseless. He was also probably the highest profile FA signing in Columbus as pretty much no one wants to play there.

Awful, tragic news to hear and they were in their hometown in New Jersey I believe on top of it all. Senseless and sad.

Is anyone watching the four nations face off? Last nights game was really good, Canada’s goaltending looks like it will be their downfall in this tournament though. The Americans seem like the favourites to me.
