I've been enjoying when that article pops up alongside the articles about those naughty Democrats out there switching affiliation in attempts to primary out the Boebert types.

Maybe that's it. But, historically people think with their wallet first. And the party in charge during periods of high inflation/looming recession don't fair well. I think the recent SC decision hurts Republicans, but with how bad things look economically I don't like the Democrats chances this Fall.

Basically, voting comes down to 80% economy--20% everything else.

Damn, how in the fuck is Walker still in this fucking race? I mean the bar is already low for his types, but wow.

I try not to think of the fact that Herschel Walker’s opponent is Rev Warnock. Not that him beating Jon Osoff would be good either but it’s stomach churning that Republicans think Herschel Walker is a more appealing African American THAN THE REVEREND FOR THE CHURCH THAT MLK JR PREACHED AT!

Who among us hasn't gotten hammered and attacked a Congressman with a kitty cat keychain?

It's really hard to get a read on politics now. It seems like people fucking hate these extremists, but until they're introduced to those extremists running in their state they remain neutral for far longer than they should. And you can't really be entirely sure that they'll hate the extremists, so we can't predict much of anything anymore. Like, maybe the Republicans will get punished for picking outright lunatics. Maybe they won't! Maybe we're seeing a return to races that are decided based on who runs rather than their political parties.

TIL that the neoliberal media is still trying to make "the conservative ex CIA agent with a conscience" Evan McMullin a thing.

57% of voters don't want Biden Vs Trump II. Good news about 2020 is we had record high turnout...bad news is I think a lot of people are going to stay home (possibly forever) after having to choose between those two.

Older I get, more I get people not interested in participating in political process. It's kind of dumb but I get it.

I have to think that there was a lot of Republicans voting with the Democrats on that particular issue. I have seen something like 67% of the population supports abortion rights nationally. Lots of people that vote Republican were upset by the Supreme Court ruling. I would not automatically believe that there would necessarily 1) be the same extremely high turnout for the routine votes that are not specifically for their abortion rights, and 2) be a situation that these likely Republican voters that supported their abortion rights would vote against their Republican candidates even though these candidates would vote against their abortion rights in a second.

IIRC, a quarter to a third Republicans are a pro choice (way more than number of Democrats who are pro life*) but I highly doubt that abortion rights are an issue that's going to drive even the most moderate Republican's decision.

*And yet the Democrat establishment still seems more willing to support pro life candidates than Republicans do with pro choice candidates. I don't see Mitch McConnell campaigning for a pro choice candidate like Nancy Pelosi did a few months back for Henry Cuellar.

I don't think they'll necessarily switch over it, but I can see voters that usually swing GOP staying home.
