After making that Oasis thread I've been basking in the warm, ephemeral glow of nostalgia for the 1990s all day and so now I'm making this thread. We've done versions of this I think, but I don't think we've ever had (or recently had) a catch-all 90s thing. I'd mention Kinetic's tournament here, but I don't want to open old wounds. So, anyway, talk about the best decade ever in this thread.

Shania Twain And Elton John

This is a great 90s YouTube because not only does it feature two great 90s songs, it also features a sunset the likes of which we just don't see anymore. Seriously. Dusk just hasn't had the same auratic quality since Clinton left office.

So is this just a music thread? We have a 90s Music Video Thread, but since the stupid mods' shitty embed limit ruined that, why not try it over again?

Anyway, this is the best song of the decade:

NEW ORDER - Regret

The early and mid 90s ruled. The late 90s fucking sucked. Especially 1999.

It seemed pop culture reached critical mass during the late 90s. The return of boybands, TRL, Ricky Martin, Pokemon, swing dancing becoming popular again, wearing one pant leg above the knee, FUBU EVERYTHING FUBU. Holy shit it was bad.

Like, if you weren't at least old enough to see Jurassic Park in the theaters you really can't speak on the 90s.

Mariah Carey - Fantasy

Another great 90s sunset. Will someone please confirm that I'm not crazy--the quality of light really was different back then, right??

The "90s" basically ended in '97. Once the Lewinsky scandal blew up and Big Dog got impeached the party was pretty much over.

That being said, I'd take the late 90's over the whole 00 decade. Everything was better in the 90s. Sports was better, music was better, television was better, food was probably better too. I pity children like Divorce Cake who missed out.

I really stopped paying attention to new music and bands in the '00s. It seemed like everybody just decided to start sucking, and if there were any good new bands I still don't know about them because I've just fallen so far out of the loop.

New music for me is discovering that Stone Temple Pilots actually made a fifth album that I never knew about.

Don't forget the rise of young, female pop stars too.

Weezer blew chunks then. No wonder I listened to nothing but classic rock and death metal that entire ten year span.

This is one of my favorite New Order tracks.

I agree that the early 90's was great. The last few years of the 90's up to now really have been full of pretty much shit.

Despite your Claude avatar, I have to disagree. It wasn't even the best song on that album.

Best song of the decade, from the best album of the decade:

Hey, I remember when Rammstein was big for those like, 3 weeks. I thought that was neat, because I basically hated everything else that was popular, so it was neat that something became popular (even briefly) that I didn't hate.
