A Game of Thrones: Season 8

She became the embodiment of what the Starks were loved for, just smart enough to not so bound by honor that she gets offed. I didn't like her at all for a long time, but post Battle of the Bastards Sansa became the best parts of both her parents while also being wise to how the world outside of the north is.

Fuck now I want to rewatch the Battle of the Bastards.

On the Night King/Kings Landing theory, def plausible as if you remember one of Bran's past visions was of a dragon's shadow over King's Landing. Dragon, singular which could def point to NK and his undead Dragon...of course it's also possible Dany loses one of her remaining two fighting him before moving on to KL, but I guess we'll see

Also remember Dany's vision of the red keep and iron throne, basically in ruins, covered in either snow or ash. Hoping it's snow. ;)

He'd be missing his head, right?

Maybe carrying it in one arm while swinging a sword with the other.

Regarding this theory a poster on the Reddit page for ASOIAF is theorizing that the crypts in Winterfell are subject to the same protection that the 3 Eyed Raven's cave was, which is why Bran is avoiding what is supposedly the safest place to be, because he knows if he goes into the crypts that the mark the Night King made on him will remove the magical spell and everybody inside will be vulnerable.

Killing Theon off here was the least interesting route they could have gone with so that's certainly disappointing.

Cersei rather than the Night King being the final threat also feels anti-climactic.

I disagree because the Night King as the final threat its a little obvious they'll win whereas with this show there's actually a small chance that Cersai could come out on top or at least survive somehow. The real drama of the show has always been in the human interactions to me, as cool as the Night King stuff is.

I'd be inclined to agree if the final enemy was someone like Tywin; there I could see why he could still provide tension as a threat.

The series has spent 7 seasons characterizing Cersei as not being nearly as smart as she thinks she his and being terrible at long term planning, and now she's expected to be a real danger left.

My only real gripe was the lighting, and that's nothing to do with the storytelling.

I feel like all of the deaths made sense and in a weird morbid way am surprised there were not more.

And a huge shout out to the musical composition. And not even the overt musical stuff. The subtle parts, the bass line for tension. That was hitting my anxiety in ways similar to my first experience with Halloween and the theme for when the Shape is stalking.

Fuck Theon. Dude should've been just fucked to death by his zombified cock and balls.

This was a fucking awesome boss fight show, and I'm very glad it wasn't spread out over two more hours. More importantly it promises CleganeBowl.

It was a visually stunning episode but I definitely had some issues with it.

- Nobody big died. Like, nobody in the A Tier of the show I mean and even in the B Tier we had Pod, Gilly, Grey Worm, Gendry all make it out too. Felt like there should have been more characters not making it out. There was some serious plot armor going on, especially at the end when it seemed like Jaimie, Brienne and Pod had been fighting with their backs to that same wall for the last 25 minutes and Tormund was the last man standing on a literal pile of podies.
- Arya killing NK was fucking dope and a complete shock and totally in line with her training. She totally said "Not today" to the actual God of Death.
- I think BorneAgain has a great point about Cersei being seen as the final boss. She's fucked up too many times to be taken seriously as a threat.
- From a battlefield tactics perspective sending the Dothraki out like that made zero sense and Ghost disappearing offscreen was lame.

Agree on the Dothraki, when the fires started going out I was like "Ohh now they're gonna have to deal with a horde of undead Dothraki!" but they didn't happen so was a letdown.

I think when all is said and done the show is going to be viewed as having dropped the ball big time when it came to exploring the mythology of the White Walkers and Night King. Outside of that brief clip with the Children of The Forest doing the dragonglass stabbing and whatever Bran said this season about the motives of NK, they're done dick all and I don't expect with 3 episodes left we're going to get any more exposition.

I am watching again now with the brightness turned up on my tv and it is amazing what can be seen now.

As for the Night King and further exposition, I expect Bran to have visions that show more.

Great episode..music was fucking on point. Loved the tracking shots too.

I actually don't feel like I need any more info on the NK/WW.. in the end they're literally just Terminators/AI that the Children created that turned on them. Theor sole purpose was to fulfil their "prime directive" which was to literally wipeout "man". I do wish that we got a bit more than one episode with them this season, though.

Arya doing the deed made total sense though..I hope it's like this in the books too.

Cersei is literally Kefka in this situation.. she's got power but she's too insane/narcissistic to actually survive any kind of onslaught.

Good point on the Night King and White Walkers. I do want some exposition but your reasoning on why there doesn’t truly need to be is spot on when you think about it.

Time to think about it made me realize how absolutely glad I am the Night King stuff is done. I just couldn't take him seriously. It'll be really nice having Jon focus on something not related to the dead for a while.

Bronn's story finally taking off will be really interesting, I hope.

Davos just vanishing needs to be addressed, too. Guy's gonna lose his head and I'll feel bad.

But what else is there for Jon to focus on? His entire storyline throughout the shows run has been everything happening beyond the wall. Volunteering for the NW, embedding himself with Mance, fighting the wildlings, fighting the dead, uniting The North to fight the dead.....

Don't get me wrong, he could have a change of heart and all of a sudden feel the need to claim his birthright but with only three episodes left something is going to need to happen REAL quick for him to jump on that.

Dany, the crown, and the impending Samwell turn.

He's in love, so there's that. He's a pretty good candidate for beheading though.

It'll be Queen Arya and King Gendry. I'm growing more and more convinced that Sam somehow gets Jon and Dany killed (or otherwise fucked over bad) and Sansa takes an arrow for Tyrion. Tyrion as the Hand, Brienne as King's Guard. I'm calling it, it's been called officially.

I never thought about it being Arya and Gendry but it would be a nice callback to the beginning with Robert visiting Winterfell and telling Eddard that he wants to unite the Starks and the Baratheons through marriage.

One thing I really liked from the start of the episode is that you could tell there was actual fear from the northern army. I don’t think I’ve seen it displayed like that on the series before. And I knew the NK army was going to be big, but for some reason didn’t think it would be as overwhelming as it was. Also surprised we didn’t see a few white walkers in the bunch on the assault on Winterfell.

Fully expected Jorah, Theon, and Beric to die. Mainly because they didn’t seem to have any story left. Thought Grey Worm would as well. And maybe someone big like Jamie (so Arya could take his face)

The dragons flying through snow and night was hard to see. Same for everyone else apparently.

Totally fine with how the Night King went out. And, yeah. That score was dope. Arya has been my favorite for a few years now. My wife who likes the show just fine but isn’t as into it even called “the Hound will jump in when he sees Arya in trouble.”

I didn’t mind that the episode was light on actual storytelling. Would be cool to know more about the Night King and what makes him tick. But everything doesn’t need to be answered.

Yahoo (which is one of the few websites my work computer doesn’t have blocked) was rotten with clickbait crap leading up to the episode. I didn’t click any of it, but nearly every headline was wrong. About Theon betraying Bran, turning Bran into a white walker, Dany turning on Jon. Just so much garbage. I ruined the season 3 finale of Lost years ago on whatever version of this board when someone wrote an entire episode summary when the episode or script leaked. And I was miserable watching it. So I’m much more cautious about that kind of stuff now.
