So.. pick one. Only one, no ties or anything else like that. One band/artist/musician that you could never live without being able to hear again. In short. Your all time favourite.

Mine has to be Pearl Jam. I've met so many great people and done so many things in my life differently that all stem from me starting to listen to these guys in high school. I'd have to wager that I'd be in a totally different place right now if they didn't exist.

Same vein different band.

I'd go with Nirvana, just because they were hot when I came of age and where my first "rebellious" musical choice that I had to argue with my mom about.

I'd also second Nirvana in part because I really love Lounge Act and they made catchy, poppy songs without having to resort to guitar wankery and technical solos that last 2-3 minutes within a song that don't serve much of a purpose outside of showing how cool the guitarist is. A slight jab at metal there (though I do like bands within the genre and like solos sometimes) but the whining of how they couldn't play their instruments means little to me when I'm judging them on the songs rather than technical mastery.

This is tough. If I had to choose one, it would have to be Eminem because I grew up listening to him. I don't have that kind of attachment with a band like Led Zeppelin. Wu-Tang would be in the mix too.

Whose favorite band ever is Bon Jovi? Honestly now. I mean, other than 17-year-old girls who once sang "Living on a Prayer" on a Greyhound bus en route to a marching band competition that they would eventually go on to win. People who passionately care about music would not say they could never live without Bon Jovi.

I don't have an answer to this, incidentally. I'm not always good at these parlor games. Sorry!

Are you talking about the thread where we chose our no. 1 band? If so, I consider this to be a slightly different category.

If I had to choose one artist whose music I cannot live without, Elliott Smith would just slightly edge out Jeff Buckley. There's something within Smith's first few albums that I just cannot get anywhere else. His latter work is still great (well, maybe not From A Basement, but that's another argument altogether), but too much of my young adult life and Roman Candle, S/T and Either/Or are personally correlated.

2Pac. I'm lucky enough to be old enough to remember when he was alive. I bump Me Against the World on a regular basis in my car.

I love music of all kinds, listen to nearly every genre and care passionately about music and Bon Jovi is still my favorite band. I grew up with them and I can listen to almost any one of their CD's beginning to end. They're underrated musically, especially when you look past the singles, and you'll get more variety from their discography than you'll get from many other more critically acclaimed artists. But hey, most people are happy assuming that Bon Jovi is nothing but 'Living On A Prayer' and 'Its My Life' and that's fine.

Still Talking Heads. Followed in no particular order by Johnny Cash, Guns N Roses and Bruce Sprinsteen

One of my regrets from high school band is that our jazz combo never went through with our plan to become, for one night, Sean Bon Jovi, in which we would play jazz renditions of Bon Jovi hits.

I never got the whole Alice in Chains thing, either.

^^^ AiC were just an amazing metal band that got transferred into the whole grunge/alternative thing. Layne Staley was an extremely talented writer and Jerry Cantrell is just a phenominal musician (both playing and writing).

AIC is my second favorite band of all time. I saw them a few years ago with the new singer and they were great. I wish I could have saw them when Layne was still alive.

Explain the slight difference between band we couldn't live without and our #1 favorite band. I'm just not seeing it.

Refused is my no. 1 band. Elliott Smith is the one musician whose music I cannot live without. There, I did it.

To clarify, that thread was started at the other temporary board. I didn't see it prior to starting this. *shrug* Does it really matter, dude?

Oh...no, it doesn't really matter. I was just confusing the other temporary board with this one. No need to mind me getting sand in the proverbial vagina.
