Glad to know that eliminating features from their products and insulting the competition was more important than not losing my fucking credit card info. Thanks Sorny!

My guess would be that the billing info HAS been compromised, and they know this, but it's 'unconfirmed' while they get their lawyers ready for the backlash.

Having been the victim of credit card AND tax fraud, I can tell you it's much easier to get charges reversed and a new card issued than have the government realize you don't owe them back taxes based on identity theft.

Don't think offering a free game is going to fix this one. I could see some sort of class-action suit coming from this. How the hell did Sony's security get so fucked?

The service is free so everyone should stop complaining (when your identity is stolen)

You can't even login to do so anyway.

Are the passwords at least encrypted? I'm one of those fools that uses like, 2 passwords for every account I have. I introduced a 3rd one when capital letters became necessary.

Maybe the hackers just want all our account info to shower us with free games from PSN? *cries*

Maybe it's just some dude who really REALLY needed all of the trophies from Madden and knew someone out there HAD to have them.

I can still download episode 3 of BTTF when it comes out right? Because I paid for that in advance.

For those with netflix, have you been able to get on? I have heard conflicting responses depending on who I have asked.

Initially when PSN went down, I was locked out from anything that required a PSN login(netflix included), but a bunch of folks on Twitter told me they had no problem still getting into netflix. I tried a few times over those few days, couldn't get in. I would do the login/backout/login/backout loop of action that people said would work. It didn't.

Then last night, I was able to get into netflix with no problems. I basically launched the app, PSN login screen came up, tried to login, but this time I got the msg from PSN "PSN down for maintenance" and when I hit circle, I was allowed to use netflix. Even did it a few times to make sure it wasn't a fluke.

So I checked on twitter today to see if it works now for everyone, and there are a bunch of folks still saying it is a no go for them.

So I wonder if this is slowly coming back user by user.

Me using Netflix via the PS3 app would require my 360, Wii, PC, and laptop to suddenly all stop working.

I'll bet my left nut that the credit card data was also taken and Sony is just biding their time so that when the network goes back up people will be so happy that they won't care as much when Sony tells them that yeah, they also took your credit card number but here play some CoD and everything will be okay.

I don't think sony has my credit card info. I've only made one purchase on PSN, and that was with a gift card.

My PS3 actually died a couple months ago after 4 years of faithful service. I hadn't logged into the PSN since like last summer/fall, and hadn't bought anything in years.

As a rule I don't have websites and such remember my credit card information if I don't have to, but I can't remember if that was optional or not on PSN. I would have only used my debit card anyway, so I don't have much to worry about.

Inexcusable on Sony's part though, and pretty much everything PSN/Firmware related in the last couple years has been for the worst.

I was debating whether or not to have my PS3 fixed, buy a slim, or just wait til the nextgen consoles come out. This makes me not want to support Sony at all. Problem is I have so much invested in PS3 games and accessories and what not that I won't get fair value by selling......I'm pretty much stuck with the system.

You can change the info on the PSN website when it comes back up, or do it from the console. Thankfully in my situation, I had an old CC# for PSN because I got hit with some CC theft not that long ago.

What a shitty situation. I wish they'd mentioned this a week ago when the service went down. We can go ahead and hand out the Fail of the Year award to Sony.

Meh, whatever. This kind of shit could happen to any company. Hell, its happened to my bank in the past. I still prefer their (Sony) system and network to lame ass Microsoft.

I generally only play my PS3 a couple times a month so I didn't even notice PSN was down.

Good thing I already have an appointment at the bank lined up tomorrow for unrelated issues. Looks like I'll have to add cancel my CC to the agenda.

I was surprised to learn there are 77 million accounts. That pretty much guarantees I'm safe! Identity theft can only strike twice in a lifetime, right?
