I’m honestly very encouraged by this news.

He was kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place since Belichick obviously didn’t really want to bring him on but I am surprised at how little blame Bill O’Brien got for New England’s woes.

Saints fired OC Pete Carmichael who had been with the franchise in that position since 2009.

Joel Thomas is also leaving the Saints to join the Giants as their new RB Coach after being in New Orleans for 9 years.

I feel like AP has the job, they don’t have plans on interviewing anyone else. He also has interest from other teams, so that increases his worth as a coach in their eyes. He shouldn’t need that, but with this org they need all the pushing that they can get. This would be a move to signify that they’re finally getting it right.

It has been strongly suggested that they already hired him and just had to get the outside interviews out of the way. He was out representing the team in city events on Monday. What they do at QB will determine however this is going to work.

How were the Patriots able to get away with not doing any outside interviews before announcing Mayo as the new HC then?
They had a clause in Mayo's contract that allowed him to be promoted to HC in the event Belichick left/was fired IIRC. Supposedly they did the same clause thing with McDaniels before he went to Las Vegas.

Damn all these backup QBs get jobs as coaches. I am not an expert by any means but I feel like the fact that he was able to make that team as productive as they were with all the roster changes shows he must have something.

Belichick is doing a 2nd interview with Atlanta and it's widely believed he'll be their next HC. Kliff Kingsbury also interviewed for the OC position with the Chicago Bears.

Sounds like MARV is in line to be the DC or the assistant HC.

Good move to get a long experienced veteran that you can lean on.

Whoever it is they bring on has to be cool with a very player friendly locker room and Marv is that kind of guy. You ain't gonna see any of that fake hardass coach shit in the Raiders locker room.

I can't possibly reiterate enough how important it is that they trade up for Caleb or Jayden Daniels.

Good candidate? He coached the Patriots TEs and FBs from 2017-2021 (was an offensive assistant in 2015 & 2016) so he's familiar with the Patriots system/the "philosophy" such as it will be under Mayo/etc. Like most of Belichick's hires, he also has extensive experience on the other side of the ball mostly coaching secondaries in college.

In a lot of ways, those kinds of interviews reflect to me that Mayo wants guys who, in a manner, understand the expectations/philosophy of the Patriots but also showcase that Mayo isn't going to stray too far from what Belichick instilled in the franchise/organization either. This isn't like they're going from Belichick to a Raheem Morris or Rex Ryan type scenario where there'd be a complete flip of everything.

I've heard that DeMarcus Covington, their DL Coach, is the in-house favorite to get the DC position so I don't expect a big change defensively, which IMO is for the best considering how elite they have been for multiple years.

Bears will be taking Shane Waldron, formerly the OC for Seattle to assume that same position for them.

Sounds like Bill Belichick doesn't want to deal with Rich McKay, which may scuttle the talk about him going to the Falcons. I think, low key, his Browns tenure as HC (dealing with Model, getting Andre Rison forced on him in '95, the QB issues) really has colored how he's viewed both his future roster building as well as his dynamics with ownership/people "above" him.

Tommy Rees is leaving Alabama to join Cleveland as their TE Coach. Atlanta DC Ryan Nielsen is set to become the DC for Jacksonville.

Best of luck to him. He was a good structure guy and the success he had in cultivating Jake Browning to be a borderline legitimate starter in this league absolutely catapulted him to this position.

This doesn’t feel like a major blow since he didn’t call plays and the pipeline under him is quite robust.

It appears the scuttlebutt is that OC Liam Coen of Kentucky is the expected next domino to fall and he will go with Callahan to reunite with Will Levis.

Bengals will assuredly promote QB Coach Dan Pitcher whom was fielding many interview requests.

Raiders will be signing Tom Telesco to be their GM. He was previously with the Chargers in that same position.
