Lot of different angles brewing here. I love it!

I also love that nice little nod to John Avildsen: "sue me for what?"

Yeah, but the series takes place over the course of 2-3 years. You don't want Hawk suddenly coming in with a bunch of legitimate tattoos or Tori with plastic surgery. Kinda like how LaRusso aged significantly between the first and third movie but they take place about a year apart.

Yeah, and we lost a year there while season three was on the shelf due to covid + the move to netflix

I kncoked out five episodes. Tell me again how out of the game was Thomas Ian Griffin? Dude looks like a natural actor so either he's got his chops or the direction is on point.

Teens are going to teen. I do not let the poor decisions of the teen arcs sway me to negativity. Raise your hand if you were rational at 16-18. The fact that some of the teen scenes have rationale is because this is season 4 and proper story telling indicates development has to happen in characters. That the RECAP had me hyped is indicative of what we're talking about here.

I want to be as presentable at 75 as Martin Kove. Shit I can concede Machio goals have sailed, but I can still aim for Kove goals. I'd settle for Zabka in my 50s at this point.

Jesus i think they wrote Dimitri just for me. I think age 6 that was me in Sensei Jones' class.

Halfway done with the season. I like the addition of Kenny and giving Anthony an actual storyline after he pretty much disappeared after the first season. Silver's reluctance to join Kreese again was also well done I thought (I loved how he blamed his sadistic attitude in the 3rd movie on cocaine lol). Not really liking the Tory/Amanda stuff but need to think about it more. Will finish the rest of the end of the weekend.

Knocked out the rest of the season this morning. As I've said before, I'm all about the Tory/Sam feud so that was nice although I wasn't a big fan of the insertion of the Mom in things even though it made sense to progress Tory's own character arc. Loved the twists at the end from the fights to the Silver/Kreese relationship to Miguel's decision. The fights were awesome and better than I was expecting so big props to the fight choreographers that no matter how many fights there are, it's never dull or boring and feels intense/engaging.

Loving that this series has developed the teen characters enough to give them legitimate arcs 4 seasons that make sense to the overall progress of their characters including Dimitri's growth as a fighter, Robby taking Kenny under his wing only to see his earlier self in Kenny now, Hawk's confidence
after his signature spike gets cut off
and reunion with Moon, etc. I didn't much care for the Anthony stuff but it helped progress Robby/Kenny's relationship and I'm all about Kenny taking over the "badass" fighter role depending on what they do with Tory.

So onboard with the teens developing their own fighting styles and I can't wait to see the progression of Robby, Tory, Sam, Hawk, Dimitri, Kenny, etc. in Season 5.

Silver
taking over Cobra Kai
was a great twist and now adds a little more... pathos back to that dojo again that felt a little missing this season.

Finished the season. I enjoyed it overall but it was a noticeable drop in quality from the previous seasons. I enjoyed the tournament (and the heart-pounding soundtrack, props to the music department there). The Kenny/Anthony/Robby stuff was probably my favorite part of the season. Interesting to see where it goes.

I guess Barnes is going to join Silver in running Cobra Kai in Season 5 (based on his "I'm sure I can grab some other Cobra Kai guys to help me run it" comment). I did like Kreese getting in his head, asking him to "fall in line" only for Silver to betray him in the end. Silver paying off the ref for Tory should lead to Robin Lively's character from part 3 to return.

I liked the callbacks to certain characters and the closure we got: the aforementioned Anthony, Aisha showing up and Stingray returning.

So Daniel and Chozen are going to fight Cobra Kai to the death it looks like? I guess new Valley Champion Haw---errr--Eli will be the main focus of the face side.

Also, I'm looking forward to Johnny having his own arc next season removed from the others in a showdown with Miguel's father. Will his dad be a previous character from the KK series?

Jesus this was good. I am surprised I didn't lose consciousness from all of my gasps during the last 20 minutes of episode 10 as all the plot points wrapped or things were laid out for season 5. I don't know how they expect me to wait a full year.

Nonspecifically, even when the series has weak moments, each individual characters' arcs has been a treat, the good guys, the bad guys, and the tweeners. None of the shoes that dropped I saw coming, either because I'm naive or they're just telling great stories.

And to echo above, FUCK YEAH on the soundtrack.
I do not swim in the country music pool so when Carrie Underwood came out I cringed and even she delivered and gave me a nostalgia pop.

I wouldn't put it past this show to make Freddy Fernandez his dad but I hope not.

It's funny, because I actually did think of that briefly as a possible scenario. With how much they like to tie the series to the films, it shouldn't shock me but it's more likely they'll tie it to Walton Goggins' character in TNKK.

Loved this season but didn't care for that last scene.

Daniel going back on his word felt like a cop-out and Chozen fell flat for me. We've already scene him and what he can offer so there isn't any mystery there like previous cliffhangers

First time I haven't been excited going into the next season.

Did a full day binge on this yesterday, once again such tremendous writing on this series, they really honor these characters in a realistic way. Everytime I talk about Cobra Kai to others, I implore them to give it a shot, even if you aren't into the KK mythology of things, the way they make all of these character relatable with shades of grey to the max is something more episodic drama series really needs to do instead of the cliche black and write protagonist/antagonist formula. Its just crazy we find this stuff in a series and its even crazier that the writing keeps being as good as it does four seasons in.

Finding sympathy for
Kreese though, after all of the nonsense he pulled.....that was a bit of a stretch at the end, but it WAS built very methodically to get to that point, so well done on that. Just slowly kinda opening the vulnerability of that character out, letting his bad side fully come out on Silver, and then to see Silver do a full and complete revenge style runaround on him in a very devious manner was some quality writing. I'm not sure I'm quite there on rooting for Kreese to have a babyface surge in season 5, but we will see where they go with it.

You know what is a sign of a strong series too? When you can't decide which season is best because they all fucking kick ass. Case in point here. Easiest and most twist and turny series to binge through too ever on Netflix IMO. Predicting what happens next on this show is very difficult, which is why I enjoy it so much probably.

Loved the season. Probably not a bad idea weaving in the younger kids if they’re going to keep this show going on a little longer.

I’ll never like Robbie. It’s the actor. Can’t stand him. Miguel seemed a little lost in the shuffle this season.

Always shocks me a little when the show drops f-bombs. Just feels out of place.

The final two fights were a little predictable. Saying that Cobra only needed to win one fight meant they were going to blow the first one.

Didn’t need more Stingray.

I know that Terry’s line at the end seemed like it was set up for “Karate’s Bad Boy” Mike Barnes. Wouldn’t make a world of sense considering their deal in KK3, and how that ended. But the show is all fan service. So I’m sure that’ll be the case.

Seemed like Cobra winning it in the end didn’t really matter with Daniel going back on his word right after. Thankfully Chozen has nothing better to do than get involved in a 30+ year karate beef.

Although those last paragraphs seemed a little bitchy; I really did love this season. Show is on a hell of a stride.

Halfway through S4. It feels even more melodramatic and over-the-top than before. I still like it, but it's getting pretty clear that the real magic was in Johnny/LaRusso coming to terms with their issues. It should have been resolved after the dinner date with Ali, to be honest.

I like the new kid, Kenny. He's a good twist on why Johnny brought Cobra Kai back in the first place, and having one of his bullies literally being LaRusso's son (who has always been a spoiled little shit) is a good addition.

I'm looking forward to the All Valley tournament, even if I've had its winner spoiled (because Facebook sucks), because we're getting both camps getting their time to be fleshed out.

Except Kyler. He sucks. Fuck Kyler.

I've said it before, but Cobra Kai is probably the best pro wrestling product out there right now. It has good action (some clearly better than others), diverse characters that all have believable motivations, and a good steady pace that always leaves you wanting more.

Finished it up last night.

Didn't see Silver's swerve coming. I knew he'd say Kreese's weakness would be Johnny, it was obvious, but I thought him beating Ray to a pulp was just a tantrum and not a bigger plan.

Called the "Miyagi-Fang" line at the start of the season. I wonder if that's how they'll get around the agreement made, or if they'll just keep it as Miyagi-Do since Danny admitted he wouldn't honor a deal made with dishonorable people.

The Robby/Hawk fight was probably the best of the series so far, but it couldn't have been if they didn't build it up so much over the 4 seasons. Not Robby and Hawk having a showdown, but the twist that each trained extensively at the other dojo before switching was a good angle.

I'm not sure how they'll make Johnny chasing Miguel will work, and I think it has potential to be the "jump the shark" moment if Miguel's bio-dad is some cartel kingpin and not just a lowly schmuck. Maybe he'll be a guy who turned his life around and is excited to be a father, who knows.

Anthony deserves the shit that Kenny's going to give him.

Tory winning how she did was great, as was her showing remorse after the liver kick and Cobra Kai pulling her away. Her disappointment and visual disgust in overhearing that Silver paid off the ref to rig it for her was great. Can't wait to see her and Sam on the same team.

The new additions of Kenny, Piper, and Devon have good potential to carry on after the core kids age out of All Valley competition. Piper has a subtle "crazy girl" energy to her, and Devon being "woke" while also embracing all the 80s bullshit machismo that Johnny loves can work as a launchpad for another "Romeo and Juliet" angle now that the Sam/Miguel/Robby/Tory stories are played out.

KYLER GOT SQUASHED AND IT WAS GREAT. FUCK KYLER.

Overall, still a great show. S4 is the weakest of the series so far, but a super strong back half makes up for a weaker start.

Reactions to this season have been strange. Almost everyone I've seen liked it but some are saying it's the weakest season and others have said this season got them back on track.

All the seasons have been great so far, but you can't go from how S2 ended and the constant intensity of S3 to how the first half of S4 creeeeeeeps along without some expectations of disappointment.

See I thought season three started kind of slow as well. And I consider S2 the weakest of all the seasons despite the great ending.

S1 is clearly the best but the next three I consider all pretty close. The teen drama was a little too much in S2 which makes me put it at the bottom.

Like I legit want a spinoff where Good Guy Chozen becomes Americanized. All unassuming and fascinated by the Golden Great Bridge, White House, Saint Louis Arch but also self defense kicking the ass of racists at every stop.

Co-staring Barry Horowitz & John Layfield.

Just judging by the way KK3 ended; Terry Silver, and “Karate’s Bad Boy” Mike Barnes shouldn’t be on great terms.
