Also, I'm looking for a starting RB. Willing to offer Michael Pitman or DK Metcalf. Price on Metcalf is slightly higher.

This is something I've been thinking about. So right now we have 15 Bench Spots and 3 IR. That's 216 players.

I'll put up a poll for the 2024 Season but do people want to stick with the current roster size or trim the bench spots down to say 10? With 10 bench spots (and say 2 IR spots), that would add 84 players to the FA pool.

I'd rather pull from my bench to fill injuries and bye weeks. The waiver wire is the dumping ground. Small bench eliminates trying to develop 3rd and 4th rd players. Even 2nd round players become produce now or risk getting cut.

Looking at my roster, the talent that would be cut: 3 extra defenses, a backup Green Bay TE, whatever spot Jeff Wilson Jr is in the Miami RB pecking order, and probably my 3rd rd pick from this year Cedric Tillman.

Not really a boom to increasing the available talent pool.

I'm on board with cutting down the bench but keeping IR the same (just to throw my "vote" out there publicly)

meh keep it the way it is IMO. cutting it down would just result in me dropping a bunch of 2nd/3rd string QBs/RBs

I went and did some digging.

IF benches were trimmed by 5. First eight cuts assumes every roster has 3 filled IR slots and full bench currently. Ninth and tenth cuts are assuming each team has their own 1st and 2nd rd picks in the next draft. 3rd and 4th rd picks are likely not better than 11th & 12th cut players.

Initial cuts are secondary defenses scoring less than 300 total pts. Next players cut with totals under 100 that have no record of success. We net 11 players entering the pool with 100 total points scored through 13 weeks of play.

For me, there are zero players that would bump my 9th player out of those 110 players. I dont have my 1st or 2nd rd pick next year either. There are 11 players I would simply add to my "watch list".

All that's being accompolished is making bench spots more scarce, and deep player development impossible. Kind of the opposite purpose of a dynasty style format. I'm not seeing a positive benefit to the available player pool. The only time there may be better players available will be during the preseason, since teams may instantly drop their 3rd and 4th rd picks.

I agree with Krankor. I know on my roster, I would much rather dump guys like Latavius Murray or Miles Sanders, as opposed to guys who might have some potential, so it would be unlikely I would be dumping guys who will really help teams much.

Instead of getting rid of spots, would something like a taxi squad work? https://www.dynastynerds.com/what-is-a-taxi-squad-and-why-you-should-have-one/ That way, you could develop younger guys while allowing for fewer roster spots. Just a thought.

Taxi Squads are interesting but right now it doesn't seem like Yahoo allows it.

One option would be switching the league to Sleeper to allow for something like that. Taxi Squads can be anywhere from 4-6 spots depending on what ppl would prefer. Setting up a "league" this does allow for flexibility (e.g. players can be on the Taxi Squad for 2 years [or more] of real NFL experience, etc.). It does look like we can actually set up a "Rookie Draft" there too without having to necessarily utilize the board.

This would be the rough link: https://sleeper.com/i/mQbbXjW1mjYg

We essentially already have the taxi squad construct built in with the large roster sizes. The only different thing we have is the built in safety net of the players being on our roster and not poach-able by other teams.

The taxi squad fearure is just a protected free agent list that gives the owner first priority. I'd much rather just have a large roster where I don't have to deal with players being poached and/or cutting someone thats probably better at that moment then the taxi squad player just to protect them by moving them to my active roster.

With injuries and bye week hell, I've used everyone on my roster throughout the season.

Battles going into the last week of the regular season:

Final championship bracket spot:
If Oldskool wins, he's in. If he loses, he needs OG & MFer to both lose. If Oldskool loses, MFer & OG both have the same record and it could come down to points. OG currently is ahead of MFer by 29 pts in total season points scored.

Battle for the final spot of the consolation bracket: Hawk & Steak
If both get wins, Hawk has a 20 pt lead in the regular season total points scored

Always love these insightful breakdowns as we hit the home stretch... the one thing I like about our league is that it always seems like there's 2-4 teams in the thick of the final spot or two every season so there's a bit of drama/interest rather than having every spot locked up by Week 12 or Week 13.

Playoff Matchups = Gotham Harlequins vs. All-Pro Pop Stars and Random Hero vs. The Exalted Ones.

Every team (8!) that missed the playoff had a record between 7-8 and 5-10, which has to be the tightest grouping I've seen in a league in a while.
