Jesus Fucking Christ see this movie. This thing is all kinds of awesome, and the best big studio movie that's come out all year.

I loved it. But a few things left me wondering

Why exactly did the Aliens land and why were they all on that ship malnourished? Did they just need fuel but they ended up being stuck here because of us?

Why did what amounted to alien gasoline turn him into a prawn?

A part of the ship, basically a homing device/GPS of sorts, broke off the main ship in the sky when they "landed".....hence the whole point of revealing
it was underground and ended up being lifted back up to the main ship at the end of the film, yada yada

Because that "alien gasoline" was more less pure alien DNA, I think.

Yeah but...

Did the control module fall off when they first came to Earth and then they couldn't leave? It almost made it seem like they'd been floating there for a while when it fell off. So why did they come and float there in the first place? And whatever happened to their leadership? Christopher seemed to be smarter than the rest of them though.

Going to see this tomorrow (well basically today). This will probably be the last movie I see until at least October so hopefully it will be good.

This movie was really good.

The transition from documentary to action was well done, although I wish we had more documentary style because I really enjoyed the stuff with the engineer and the sociologist, it was a really interesting way to frame the movie.

control module

That's basically what the news/documentary footage said. As to why they came here seems to be left deliberately ambiguous.

Shame I had to put up with about 20 minutes of advertisements and previews, though. On that note, Zombieland looks awesome. I laughed my ass off at how awful Legion looked, though.

Saw it and loved it. It was easily the best movie that I've seen this summer. It wasnt your basic aliens coming to earth story.

Peter Jackson (who put alot of faith in this first time director and executive produced the film) is going to be on a role in BOTH the directing and executive producer chair - he's got The Lovely Bones coming out this winter and he's also executive producer on Spielberg's Tin Tin movie which I think comes out next year.

I pretty much love anything that he is apart of. Except those LOTR movies.

They specifically said that the aliens were more of a hive system, in that *all* of the aliens were more like workers, without any leaders. Christopher was obviously smarter. So they spent the last 20 years trying to get the control module back up from Earth? Obviously without notifying the humans of its whereabouts / location / etc. 20 years refining their technology to create enough fuel to get back? And most of the Prawns were too stupid to try to do it?

He's a contrarian movie critic who goes against the grain to make Jingus upset.

Ebert actually defended his District 9 review, but then took it back, admitting he was a troll

What's funny is that Ebert uses Synecdoche, NY as his example, a film that received mixed reviews from critics, and a film I personally didn't like.

"Synecdoche, NY" is a movie that's easier to appreciate than enjoy IMO. I appreciate it, and recognize it as a work of art-I just don't see myself revisiting it.

I just thought it was a pretentious wank off movie. I went with a friend, fully expected to argue since he likes those kind of movies, and he even admitted it.

While the gimmick is funny to a point, I think RT should stop using him

So even with all the hype and good press, I still enjoyed this movie greatly. I thought I might be dissapointed because I have heard nothing but good things. Nope, it was awesome.

Question though about a scene in the trailer that I don't remember in the movie, maybe I just forgot it happened, or somehow just can't remember it.

I remember a scene in the trailer showing a specific scene, or at least a cutshot of a Prawn behind a glass wall, an interrogation room of some sort, and he says to the human interrogator that "We just want to go home" and then the interrogator says, "tell us how your weapons work"

Was this in the theatrical cut of the movie and I just can't remember it?

Maybe it got cut or it was used specifically for the trailer.

Yeah I kind of expected that scene to happen once chistropher was arrested and put in the back of the HMU vehicle, or maybe he would get captured during their "get back the alien DNA" mission, but nope it never happened.

The total non-care for life in general by HMU and the scientists and others, wow, just wow, it kind of makes you wonder how governments and corporations would act in a similar situation, hell even with different races of people

Someone on my Facebook feed posted this recently:

"District 9 could've been one the greats, unfortunately though they decided to trade in profundity for the cheap shock and gimmicky camera work."

I was actually expecting it to be
the last scene of the movie, with Wikus fully transformed and now being interrogated by MNU. I got halfway there with the transformation!

This was my only issue with the movie as well.

Yeah, think it was slightly over hyped by Peter Jackson lovers and movie students, still an OK watch though. Not sure there was much story telling, when I think back.
