I always feel like West Coast gets the upper hand when it comes to fast food. There's not much appetizing chain-wise that we get on the East Coast that you don't get.

Fast Food Burger Shootout: In-N-Out vs. Five Guys

For East Coast, Five Guys gets pimped as having great fries a lot, fresh and hand cut, but I've never actually tried them. There's one about an hour away from me.

Anyone who doesn't think Five Guys makes the best fries is a 'mo. Totally worth the drive.

We just got a Five Guys where I live. Best frys in Southern California.

And fast food seems to be geared towards the stoner on the West Coast. I've probably ordered Jack in the Box's dollar menu five times over already.

Yeah, I think the burgers themselves are slightly overrated (still really fucking good though by any standard) but the fries are easily the best fast food fries I've had and better than 99% of the fries I've had at sitdown restaurants.

Oh yeah, I finally made it to a Five Guys late last year. Fries are great (not quite as hard for them as everyone else though), but I can never finish them all for some reason.

There's a 5 Guys at Greektown Casino. I should try it sometime.

Where is there a Five Guys around here, MF?

Greektown?? No shit! I'm going to have to make the trip over there to see if it lives up to the hype.

The only one I know of in Michigan is in Warren, but I went to one in Syracuse (at school there now).

Five Guys fries make me fart. Must be something in the seasoning. The burgers and dogs are tops, though.

In N Out slaps Five Guys around like a red-headed stepchild.

In-N-Out's fries are like, okay by themselves but then they put all that shit on there and you eat it and you could definitely beat afterward.

Okay, I am going to say it. For all of the hype that Five Guys gets (not just from here), its overrated.

Don't get me wrong they're damn good burgers, but not as good as all the positive press they have been getting. And certainly not for the price they charge, that's for sure. And their fries are natural cut which are best eaten from the second you get them, not when you have to drive ten minutes to get home.

Again, they are good, not great.

If I ever get to go to Cali or Vegas again for my job, rest assured I'll give In N Out a try.

I ate at a Five Guys once and somehow rang up a $15-20 tab at lunch. I'm too cheap to ever go back.

Don't feel bad, it was almost $18 for me and my girlfriend. That's way too much for what you're getting. $12 or $13 sure, but I do tend to forget everything is inflated price wise in downtown Ann Arbor.

Five Guys is pretty pricey overall for a fast-food joint.

All this talk about overpriced burger n fries fast food joints and no one mentions SmashBurger? Pretty good fries there as well but everything else is a Fatburger clone.

Who is a clone of what? Oh America and your places I've never heard of.

I like it when Harvey's had "Frings" - half a box of fries, half a box of rings back in the day.

Yeah but the burgers are at least mid-shelf bar/grill quality. It's not like you're paying seven dollars for a McDouble.

Yeah, but would you rather have one Five Guys or seven McDoubles?

Can I take the 7 McDoubles and turn it into a McCatorce?

I can knock back a couple of McDoubles no sweat but, unless I'm super-hungry, one Five Guys burger feels like a gut bomb. I usually get a hot dog when I go.

I'd also like to point out that Five Guys is the closest thing here to In N Out, and I'm very, very bitter about it. It's good but holy shit there are so many other places I can pay $10 for a burger and fries at in this town that are not only way better but that serve alcohol!

I don't think Five Guys is that bad, for what it's worth. The first thing every California transplant thinks of when they see one though is "WTF IN-N-OUT RIPOFF!" since the ambience/color scheme is very similar.

This is worthy of a new thread.
