More good singles than albums in'83. Most notably Lena's "99 Luftballoons."

Best album is Come Away With ESG.

I checked out Rolling Stones covers for July of 86. I just missed an awesome one with Jack Nicholson

Probably this for me, too, which is a little silly since it's really only my third or fourth favorite Tom Waits album. Maybe Speaking in Tongues? '83 is really weak according to my tastes.
Murmur? Perverted by Language? Metal Magic?

And I do like Murmur, but, crushing my indie cred, I'm partial to late 80s/early 90s R.E.M. most of all. I dunno that I could ever call a Fall album quite my favorite of anything.

Lots of good stuff in 1985, as far as I'm concerned—Rain Dogs, This Nation's Saving Grace, Flip Your Wig, New Day Rising, Tim, etc.—but none of it tops:

Bah, how could I forget Fegmania!? I'll throw in Brothers in Arms, too. 1985 killed it, for sure.

Man, '85 also has Kate Bush's Hounds Of Love. Every song on the A side (particularly "Running Up That Hill" and "Cloudbusting" and the title track) is a stone cold classic. If only my parents had waited a few years.

I don't know how comprehensive the Wikipedia lists are, but filtering by year on rateyourmusic gives you 1000 noteworthy albums from each year to choose from.

81 was maybe the best year ever for horror movies. Not the strongest for me for music though

...I also really like pop music and Colour By Numbers is a guilty pleasure. Madonna's self-titled came out 11 days after I was born and I do really like it, but some of the songs are extremely weak. Feel the same way about Whammy!

Honestly, that album is just phenomenal. I'll fall into a k-hole every so often where I listen to the A side like 40 times on end.

1988 was a p. mediocre year for music I like. Lot of not that great albums by artists I really like. This one is great though!

Don't forget:

Actually, 1988 was pretty good, a few critically acclaimed albums, but I haven't listened to many of them other than these.

'88 also has Surfer Rosa, Spirit of Eden, and Our Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart. Plus a bunch of other shit. We should expand this discussion to include noteworthy singles that were blowing up around the time that we were born, I think. There's a lot more to discuss that way.

"We Are The World" was #1 on the day I was born. Shitty song, but I enjoy Steve Perry's soaring vocals in the second chorus.

"Bette Davis Eyes" was apparently the #1 song of 1981. Decent song, but that's pretty strange

Blondie - Rapture
Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight
Rick James - Super Freak
Hall & Oates - Private Eyes
AC/DC - Back in Black
Rush - Tom Sawyer

some good shit that year

Kind of realized that 1985 is the most 80's year of the 80's

Duran Duran, A-ha, Phil Collins and Tears for Fears all topped the charts.

Number one on my day of birth... UP WHERE WE BELONG. The 90s saw my birthday play host to two Mariah Carey and two Boyz II Men songs, as well as Candle In The Wind 97 (Sir Elton also had a number one on my birthday in the 70s. Oh shit, Gypsys Tramps and Thieves in 1971!

UK and Australia number ones were Eddy Grant and Dexy's Midnight Runners, respectively.

#1 song in 1983 was "Every Breath You Take" by The Police. It was also #1 in the USA on the day I was born. "Baby Jane" by Rod Stewart was #1 in the UK on the day I was born. That song is horrible BUT my mother's name is Jane so...kind of neat.

The top 100 songs of 1983 is pretty good from my perspective. Elton John "I'm Still Standing" is my karaoke go-to and Frida "There's Something Going On" is my absolute guilty pleasure. A lot of Culture Club, Duran Duran and Michael Jackson, too. "Billie Jean" was the second biggest song that year.
