FEEL THE HEAT! The Vintage SummerSlam thread

Now that I think of it, both "SS" shows in '92 had double main events where the more promoted of the two was midway through the show. Holy shit, Mania did the same thing now that I'm thinking more. That's one way to start a new generation I guess.

That really was good booking. They set themselves up for the next step, putting those next generation guys over the old guard in some dream matches. Of course, then 1993 happened. But still, good job 1992 WWF!

If they pick somewhere other than Vegas for Mania, maybe the local promoters don't whine to Vince about the card and Hogan is never brought back so we get Bret beating Yoko and we move along.
You can still get to Bret/Owen later if Bret is champ for a chunk of the year. It only feeds Owen's jealousy.

I mean they freakin' set up Bret's next challenger (Luger) at the Brunch on Saturday....and then we don't get the payoff. Plus Bigelow had been pushed as a fresh heel to beat.

Yoko can work Duggan around the horn and then Yoko wins the KOTR tourney (maybe he beats Duggan in Rd 1 to blow it off?) can still set up the July 4th thing and Luger can be Mr America as Bret carries the World title. (A bit of Verne/Crusher dynamic where the belt is on the wrestler while the brawler is set up to draw the houses)

Only problem is that Hart likely doesn't move business since it was in a lull and he never gets the belt back after whoever beats him.

Anything less than Bret/Savage or Bret/Perfect on top doesn't work at Wrestlemania. Yokozuna kills Duggan, Backlund, or Bossman instead. Yokozuna gets the belt on Raw after Bret is run ragged from all the challenges and Luger fucking with him, Knightfall style, which also establishes Raw as being can't miss. Yokozuna has the rest of the year for matches with Savage, Perfect, and Luger while Bret gets the KOTR and has roughly the same timeline.

Flair/Piper in a grizzled respect match that helps get Flair more over before taking the belt back would be good. Book it like an NWA match from ‘83. Both guys bleed, maybe redo the dog collar gimmick match.

That’s for summerslam 92. I also like the idea of Taker vs Shawn Michaels. We know now they have great chemistry together. Imagine what they could have come up with in their physical primes. Taker goes over after treating Shawn like a pinball the whole time. Considering the era, I’m sure it would have been impactful at the time and would still be talked about years later.

Oh thank God they could have had Flair work Kerry
Or maybe do an angle where the LOD takes out IRS and Flair takes Dibiase's place
Nailz-Virgil-Flair triple threat??
Dark match before the six-man: Flair vs Reno Riggins
Two minute boxing match with Lennox Lewis
Wire $40000 to Bill Watts and make him fly Pillman over on the Concorde so he can job to Flair
ANYTHING SO THAT RIC FLAIR CAN HAVE HIS WEMBLEY MOMENT

could Flair have been SMW champion and defended against Dixie Dynamite to set up the return match in Paintsville

Savage/Bulldog. Shenanigans abound and either Savage scrapes by or Bulldog wins and transitions to Flair instead.

Bret/Shawn in a ladder match. Skip a step, get a masterpiece.

Flair/Warrior with all kinds of overbooking that plays into the main event later.

Piper/Martel because hell yeah.

diana has been defending bulldog from bret's accusations of davey's summer of drugs

I hope this doesn’t cause any friction in the family, they are usually so supportive and tight knit with each other.

Diana is right and her jealous brother Bret didn't deserve such a spotlight at Wem-ba-lee. Davey should have instead worked with and defeated new WWF champion Ric Flair (who cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase, turning the world title match into a three-way and stole the pin on Randy earlier in the night). Bret could have instead had a workrate classic with Ultimo Dragon, then working for WWF partner SWS, to open the show (UK version; in the US the match airs on Prime Time three weeks later).
