Well, just had my first game as Lincoln against my first friendly opponent's picked for me by the game (I set my own up later, but it gave me this one surprisingly). Hi Newcastle United!
I actually managed to have a good game against them. They worked their asses off. Sadly, I couldn't have Chris James (my biggest transfer) join the club as he was away on international duty, but the team made up for it without him.
It was quite a back and forth affair, surprisingly. I'm not sure how, but the team put on a huge effort. We had so many first half plays that could have gone in, but I was happy to walk away with the game tied at the half.
The second half was more of the same back and forth affair, with me cheering on my Imps, until the 70th minute when United decided to just gun at me, and I will say if it wasn't for my masterful plan of putting Clapham in as sub instead of a starter, it would've all been for naught! When the 88th minute hit and United basically went "screw defense" because the Imps are a lowly npower league 2 team, I turned my strategy into counter and soon we began getting all over their mistakes. When 90 minutes were up and we had an extra two minutes of stoppage time added, I began to worry if we could hold out, but as we pressed in on another mistake, Boughton got taken down. It was a free kick and I was thinking we could make something special happen.
Boy did something special happen. Steve Kerr, lines up for the free kick. But instead of sending it towards someone at the goal, he just sends it to the goal himself. Ainwick flails at the 70 foot shot, but somehow it goes off of him and in, and incredibly, we're up one to nil on Premiership team! Woo!
I think the refs forgot to look at the time, because we played yet another two more whole minutes, because of how stunning that goal was. What a win!
