Yeah I really missed Xenotrolling. Meet the new board, same as the old board.

I love when lists like these come out and people are SHOCKED that different people rate different games differently.

As to the Resident Evil 2 vs 4 argument, despite both being Resident Evil in name, they're two completely different games. RE4 completely re-vamped the franchise, and to me there's a giant line between pre-4 and 4 and beyond games. 2 is easily my favorite of the pre-4 games, but I don't honestly know if I like it better. They're both different beasts and it's hard to compare. But I don't see why anyone would be shocked that some people would like 2 more, and some would like 4 more.

Now if you told me Resident Evil 3 was better than 2 or 4, I might be a bit shocked, but again it's all personal taste and to each his own.

For the record, everyone, that message to luke wasn't shock, it was mostly me giving him shit. Ok are we cleared up on that now?

RE4 is still better, btw

Xenogears.

What's funny is that next to nobody seems to talk about Xenogears anymore, and when they do they mostly seem to gripe about its issues. It's like a segment of RPG gamers woke up from a ten year period of having beer goggles and discovered what a brown-bagger it really was.

And the market told Xenosaga to go *foxtrot* itself.

It's not as funny as you disowning Star Ocean 3, though!

This is a false basis for an argument, as it can "seem" like the game is talked about just as much as any other significant PS RPG, but just for the sake of argument, I bring up the composer Johann Sebastian Bach. He is now universally regarded as the most important musician of the Baroque era, but in his time Bach was famous for being an organist, not for his compositions. He was relatively unknown as a composer until three generations after his death, when Felix Mendelssohn celebrated his works.

So maybe Xenogears isn't talked about much. Maybe this gem that was so controversial, and such a hot topic in its time, is now mostly forgotten. Well, like with Bach, almost three generations have passed (albeit video game console generations). The time will come when we reflect on the great games of the past, and Xenogears will rightfully forever be mentioned amongst them.

It's not as arbitrary to include influence, instead you just have more random collections of random people's opinions. It is always funny that every magazine that does one of these lists has a different #1, though. I remember Tetris won #1 on EGM's 100th issue. Tetris.

I think I had that issue, and if I'm thinking of the same one, I believe Tetris was actually #2 with Super Metroid at #1.

I think what surprises me most about this list is that Ocarina of Time is up there at #20. Usually in these lists, it's at least Top 10.

No, that's their 200th issue. In the 100th issue, I don't even think Super Metroid was in top 10 (may have been 9 though, but definitely not #1.. Tetris was #1, SMB3 was #2)

Xenosaga outsold Xenogears. That is all.

Do you mean Episode 1? I'm not clear on how the others did but supposedly not well at all (IIRC, Ep. 2 apparently lead to the series being ended prematurely).

So, I was looking through last month's GI. They had 3 or 4 letters from people asking why isn't this game on the list, and why isn't that game on the list. Their response was pretty much "what is the point of a list, if not to generate controversy?" Well, way to go ahead and point out your list was full of fucking shit.
