I watched Kolobos a few years ago. I was entertained. The acting is pretty amateur, but it's a decent Argento/Fulci homage and as Laz said the kills are gruesome. I have a soft spot for late 90's/early 00's cheese and Kolobos satisfied me.

Good, I've always liked the original. I never saw the sequel or the Colin Farrell remake for that matter. Never thought to seek it out.

Intrigued by the Willard release and FUCK YES at Man's Best Friend. Literally taped this off TV one night as a kid when they did one of those 7 PM "horror" movies on a random channel like WB or whatever at the time. Since then, I'm a total sucker for it.

Now if only the movie Strays with Timothy Busfield would see a release.

Ya it was very awful 2002 release. Glad it's the anime to say the least.

https://ew.com/tv/2019/01/31/cbs-frankenstein-pilot/

CBS has ordered a drama pilot titled Frankenstein.

This latest and very loose adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel follows a San Francisco homicide detective who “is mysteriously brought back to life after being killed in the line of duty. But as he resumes his old life and he and his wife realize he isn’t the same person he used to be, they zero in on the strange man behind his resurrection – Dr. Victor Frankenstein.” (Duh-nuh!).

The Det. Frankenstein drama (yes, we know, he’s technically Frankenstein’s monster) will be in consideration for next season’s primetime lineup. Writer Jason Tracey (Burn Notice, Elementary) is responsible.

Just got back from seeing Escape Room and I really enjoyed it 6.5/10. Definitely had the vibe of say Final Destination and I enjoyed the different aspects of each utilized escape room. The plot focused on
lone survivors and the end with a tie back to the "No Way Out" phrase and Zoey/Ben being thrown back into a plane-centric scenario
was decent and I liked the idea that other groups had been utilized in the past. Also had a bit of a Cube feel to its plot backstory but could work if fleshed out in future sequels.

The characters were (mostly) likeable enough although, much like the first FD, not radically fleshed out. I can very easily see this going the 4-5 movie sequels route with fleshed out backstories and/or more elaborate escape room designs and concepts.

Just saw The Prodigy starring Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black) and Jackson Robert Scott.

6/10

Doesn't try to do much new with the concept of
possession of a kid's body via reincarnated soul
but the acting is decent, there's a few tense scenes (and only 1 stupid jump scare), and the film runs the length of time it needs to. The plot is a bit thin and some of the integration e.g. the opening, the psychiatric aspect, and the end go by fairly fast but at the same time it didn't feel like the film needed to be any longer than it was.

Check it out if you're looking for a decent February horror movie on the cheap in preparation to stuff like Happy Death Day 2U.

Considering how much I dug Ari Aster's first film, this definitely piques my interest.

Anyone end up seeing Hole in the Ground?

This played over the weekend at a local AMC but I think its been on Directv for awhile. Anyhow, quite a gem of a film actually. Really eerie and tense stuff in this one, mixed with a really dreadful tone. The gore factor wasn't very high and didn't need to be.

Reminded me a bit of a Pet Sematary in some ways, maybe with an Omen/Prodigy vibe a bit as well until the story fleshes out a bit. Performances were really good, especially the young boy. Comparatively to the kid in Prodigy, this role was much more believable and convincing for sure.

Really well worth checking out for sure

Just watched Dead Ringers (1988) for the first time, directed by David Cronenberg. A great little performance by Jeremy Irons as Elliot/Beverly. It's more drama than actual horror IMO with two identical twin gynecologists working together when one (Beverly) falls for a 'mutant' (down south wise) actress but becomes torn in trying to maintain a relationship with her while staying beside his brother (Elliot) and their burgeoning career. Eventually Bev starts to melt down and it gets really intense towards the climax.

This is kind of an unorthodox spot to put it, but better than anywhere.....

It was listed as a horror and I'd consider it as such.....saw the new Gasper Noe film over the weekend, Climax. While it was tame for Noe's standards, it was still a bit raunchy and a lot over the top aesthetically.

Besides the usual weirdness in a Noe film (example: the end credits started at the beginning of the film in a unorthodox manner, concurrent with a scene that should have been placed in the end of the film basically) there was lot of visual strangeness, which keep in mind the story was that an entire party of folks got dosed with LSD spiked in their drinks.

That said, it played out very much like I suppose it would if a group of people unaware of the drug took it and chaos ensued to the n'th degree. I can't say I completely enjoyed it start to finish, but it certainly kept my interest going. The last half hour is about as chaotic and fucked up as you will probably see from a film this year.

Seeing that on Wednesday, but I'm glad someone else did. I must admit I didn't read your post after seeing what it was that you saw so I'll have to come back to this then.

Coming 6/24 from Arrow. Info and specs:

Continuing its mission to unearth the very best in weird and wonderful horror obscura from the golden age of US independent genre moviemaking, Arrow Video is proud to present the long-awaited second volume in its American Horror Project series co-curated by author Stephen Thrower (Nightmare USA: The Untold Story of the Exploitation Independents).

Starting off with a little-seen 1970 offering from underrated cult auteur John Hayes (Grave of the Vampire, Garden of the Dead), Dream No Evil is a haunting, moving tale of a young woman’s desperate quest to be reunited with her long-lost father – only to find herself drawn into a fantasyland of homicidal madness. Meanwhile, 1976’s Dark August stars Academy Award-winner Kim Hunter (A Streetcar Named Desire) in a story of a man pursued by a terrifying and deadly curse in the wake of a hit-and-run accident. Lastly, 1977’s Harry Novak-produced The Child is a gloriously delirious slice of horror mayhem in which a young girl raises an army of the dead against the people she holds responsible for her mother’s death.

With all three films having been newly remastered from the best surviving film elements and appearing here for the first time ever on Blu-ray, alongside a wealth of supplementary material, American Horror Project Volume Two offers up yet another fascinating and blood-chilling foray into the deepest, darkest corners of stars-and-stripes terror.
