It was. My movie was booked to start at 12:15, after a few false starts ("Sorry guys, we're running the film through 16 screens at once, bear with us") I watched it all, left after the movie was over, which got me in my car at 3:17 AM. Definitely fairly long, but I mean once you're at that point, just go longer. Make it better.

Wouldn't be surprised to see an extended DVD release then. Haven't seen it yet, but if what you're saying is true, then they haven't built Snape up very well at all. The only hope is extended scenes, or they've merged them into the last two films.

That's been my main complaint for the past two Potter films: the books were too damn long and it wasn't feasible to fit that much information into anything less than a three-hour film. There have been lots of fairly important little details which got cut out of the movies because they just didn't have time to put them in.

I don't even know why I bother, but an actual quote

...Stephenie Meyers’ Twilight book series, which was wondrously re-imagined for the big screen by Catherine Hardwicke. The Potter film industry has never employed a good director.
...could have been marvelous metaphors for sex, morality and maturation—like a bigger-budget Twilight...Love potions, teenage crushes, phallic Quidditch tournaments...this unerotic make-believe...
Guess who?

You really can't have a "glorious re-imagining" of Twilight without the entire cast being tortured and executed in the most painful and humiliating ways possible.

I actually sat down and watched a one dollar rental of Twilight. It was a lousy movie, and I have no idea how close this was to the book. Too much sex, not enough..coherent story.

I went to a midnight showing last night of HBP. It was a good movie, my enjoyment was hampered a bit by finishing the book a couple of hours prior.

I had a problem with the thrown-in scene of Bellatrix and Greyback burning down the Burrow. Did the Weasleys, Harry, Hermione, Lupin, and Tonks not know a good water spell? I thought it was a bit lame, considering that, in the book, Hagrid was able to put out the fire at his shack with a spell. That whole scene just didn't agree with me.

Wait. What? They burned the whole house down? Did nobody tell the screenwriters that a pretty critical scene took place there in the next book?

Well, we didn't see it come down. Excuse me.

However, the scene ended with everyone staring at it, burning in the night.

Just got back from it. Personally, I thought it was the best out of the series so far.

I liked the added scenes of Harry/Ginny- one thing Rowling didn't do a very good job of, imo, was developing their relationship in the book. The movie made it seem more real, even if it just leaves off. On the flip side, Ginny's relationship with Dean got cut to one scene together, and one where Hermione suddenly says they had been fighting, which kind of cheapens that.

My biggest complaint was, of course, the lack of Snape. When he was on screen he was great, but I wished he had more scenes. One scene I was really looking forward to was him teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts when he was teaching silent casting. But since everyone can already DO silent casting, I guess it was deemed unnecessary.

Ending kind of came out of the blue, and Ron didn't get one line in, either! WTF! Also- since DH begins at the Burrow with the wedding, and they destroyed the Burrow in this movie- where will the wedding be? Also- I hated that we finally got to see the whole house (inside) just to see it get demolished.

I wouldn't be surprised that, either for the super-deluxe boxed set with all 8 movies, or sometime in 2011 they release extended cuts of all of the movies for the 10th anniversary. I know the first two movies had deleted scenes on the second disc, and there are scenes that were shot for Phoenix that were cut and not included as extras (James-Lily arguing about Snape, McGonagle in a wheelchair after being attacked, etc). There had to have been stuff cut from this movie, consideringt how long it was (though I really didn't notice how long it was until it ended and I checked my watch.)

Personally, I thought it was bad. Not REALLY bad, but bad.

It felt more like American Pie with wizards than Harry Potter. Not enough Snape/main story. It was far too long and they spent a lot of time on pointless bullshit, and not a lot happened in the last hour which made it drag.

Well apart from
Dumbledoor dying
obviously, but even then it felt rushed and a bit of a non event.

Anyways, it's not the best of the series but it wasn't the worst. 3/7

On a side note, I got the full blown trailer for G.I. Joe, which looks pretty fuckin' awful. Thus concluding a summer of proper shitty "blockbusters".

My favorite trailer was for "9", my least favorite was for "Twilight 2, the Bloodening" which was just *so* bad. I mean I didn't really like Buffy or Angel, but Twilight makes them look epic and quality.

Matt Young: bringin the class.

I was also disappointed by the lack of Snape backstory, but hopefully they'll clear that up in one of the next two films. It was nice seeing Lupus back again, even if it was only one scene. They established him and Tonks being together as well.

I wish they'd have spent a bit more time on the Dumbledore scene. The Cave scene was done really well though, and they actually mentioned Regulus so that set up the next movie. Broadbent was pretty awesome as Slughorn.

'Lucky' Harry was a great sequence. His pseudo-sarcastic delivery to Slughorn was pretty good stuff. Also bringing the comedy: Lavender Brown and Ron Weasley.

I'm not sure how the next film will work. The first half of Deathly Hallows was just sitting around in the woods being paranoid.

Hey, she's legal now. I've had a thing for her for about 2 years now; ever since I read all the books and then saw the movies. Not that she was hot in the earlier movies since she was too young... ah, I'm digging a hole here.

I thought HBP was the best movie of the series.

I was in a seat that was rather close to the screen. I have to admit that my eyes were stuck on her cleavage.

I thought this was a much better movie than Order of the Phoenix... yes, a little heavy on the teenage love and too light on the Snape but I'm hoping they add some of the Snape stuff back in to kill time at the beginning of Deathly Hallows. Since there isn't a whole lot of plot to move in the first of the two movies.

Very funny movie, too. I don't remember laughing quite as much during the other ones.

I think part 1 of Deathly Hallows will open with the funeral scene and both parts kind of have to feature Snape prominently... especially part 1.

I think they'll just explain it all in a semi throw away flash back scene, perhaps extended the memory bit where Snape spills the Beans to Harry.

First of all, this film is an ADAPTATION not a TRANSLATION

I was quite surprised how much that was in the book was in the film.

As far as I'm concerned, as long as they hit the big notes, little plot points can be spared.

I think this film flowed the best of any of them since "Azkaban"

I was watching "Sorcerer's Stone" a couple nights ago, funny in hindsight to watch the three leads and their stiff, wooden delivery (Emma Watson was particularly guilty of this) and yet now of course they're so comfortable and aren't just playing characters but inhabiting them. Once "Deathy Hallows" is complete in 2011, it'll be quite an amazing thing to see this 8 film saga, and how these innocents grow up into world weary and life changed adults.

MVP of this film is definetely Tom Felton. After 5 films of playing the one-note bully, he finally gets to give Draco depth and range.

Harry tripping balls on the luck potion was pretty funny stuff

Yeah I loved that part:

Paraphrasing-

Hermoine: "Now Harry remmember, you should be able to catch Prof Slughorn in his office before dinner, if you hurry"

Harry: "Right! I'm going to Hagrid's hut!"

I wanted some happy, big band music to play while Harry finds his way seamlessly through the heavily guarded castle.

"I feel like Hagrid's is just the place to be right now."

Look, as far as I'm concerned, Potter/Snape interactions were the "big notes" in the sixth book, and they were completely swept under the rug in favor of Quidditch and Teenage Romance.

It just means they'll have to redo the 6th book in the 7th movie. Each movie is going to have to be like three hours long!

Harry should have used the luck to try to put together a threesome with Ginny and Cho.

You know, I hadn't read the book since maybe '07, but you know what I did remmember from it? Slughorn and his connection to the horocruxes, Weasly's Quidditch, Harry and Ginny, Harry using the Half Blood Prince's potion book, and of course the ending.

All these moments that if you asked me to sum up what occured in Half Blood Prince (the book) I would've mentioned- AND they were the ones highlighted in the film.

By that observance, this film succeeded.

I just wish they included the final battle in Hogwarts.

Supposedly, they scrapped that so as to not detract from the final Final Battle in Deathly Hallows.
