It genuinely bothers me seeing what he's become/been revealed to be. Like the inner child could not be more betrayed. It's silly but it hits me periodically. My canon is he died midway through Mr. America and whoever has been around since is someone else.

Listen, hear me out. Hogan turns on the US in 1990 and Warrior saves freedom.

Posts like this make me glad that that wasn't my experience: I was raised on Georgia Championship Wrestling, and I never watched the cartoon because it came on at the same time as Superfriends. I didn't start watching WWF until I was already a teenager (followed Arn and Tully up north), so Hogan was always a prick, as far as I was concerned. I distinctly remember asking my Hulkamaniac classmates in junior high why they thought that Hogan was the good guy when the Mega Powers exploded.

It isn't a wrestling thing, it's a childhood figure thing. Hogan was not only a constant figure growing up, but was without fail on top. Dude's got some moments that definitely mean a lot to me. Never, ever thought he was an overly good person even before I knew how shitty he really was. But seeing an icon, a superhero who was just this huge presence forever and who I have so many memories of both good and bad, show up doing the same shtick at a glorified Nazi rally is very hard to deal with. I think that's a huge part, honestly: he's doing the gimmick that was all about positivity and all this shit in the most hideous context imaginable.

And Hogan was never a face in any way when it came to Savage. Like, I'm trying to think of any iteration of their characters interacting and Hogan ever being in the right. Savage was a real one.

Hogan says in one of his books his idea was just the opposite. He wanted Vince to re-ignite Hulkamania by pushing him even harder in 1990. Think 1995/early 96 Nitro shit.

A world where the Arsenio gaffe goes worse is intriguing. But it's really fascinating at this point watching the shows from that time and how Hogan just felt dated. Like the image was never the same after the Warrior faceoff at the Rumble.

The Hogan heel turn scenario I've always thought of as a totally implausible but potentially fun what if is him taking Dibiase's offer and selling the belt. Like yeah, no chance, but the hypothetical directions are just silly enough to kill some time.

I get what you're saying, Valeyard, but my overall point is that Hogan was never a superhero to me: my first exposure to him was in Rocky III, and he was an asshole in that, too.

That's the most fucked up lie he's ever told.

I don't really see the timeline issue in that story, as the album didn't come out for another two years. The problem in this case is that he later told a completely different story about the song, claiming he met a terminally ill child who was supposed to see him wrestle in Wem-ba-lee but died before the event. I'm sure one of the stories is absolutely true, but which one?

I just find him using James Bulger for any kind of points genuinely repulsive.

The important fact there is that he was going to skip the wedding to be at SNME until he got butt hurt about the Netflix debut and the Punk promo.

Starting to think he’s a shitty father!

As a wrestling fan of old school, I always enjoyed Hulk Hogan's work from his first title victory in the WWF in 1984 to his first match in WCW in 1994. But the thing is, Hogan NEEDS to RETIRE from the business, forever.

It's all over and Hulkamania is DEAD FOR REAL, this time.
