Oh shit, extra tickets for Mangum here in DC were just released. I am fucking pumped. And much less depressed than I was upon missing out when they first went on sale.

Mangum sings like Sonny Liston used to punch. Unreal.

What's your guys experience with house shows? I just played my first house show and it was pretty awesome. Has anyone here thrown one? I feel like this is something awesome that I've been totally missing out on for years.

Watching shitty bands play in someone's living room, surrounded by PBR-swilling dickheads? Fuck yeah!

Lividity in someone's house in Milford, IL was the most fun I've ever had seeing a band. I've told that story a couple times, though.

I've been to and played in many excellent house shows. Inc is just mad because he's old.

I don't know, most of my experiences with house shows are that they're played by shitty bands. It's cool to support your friends and all, but for the most part the music is pretty terrible.

which yard can you taaaaaaake

I have a fair amount of acquaintances in bands. The ones who aren't awful at least get to play at some of the back-bar or small stage places in DC. The ones who play at people's parties usually cause me to stay in and binge watch Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman instead.

I know it's possible to see a good band at a house show, but the moment I encounter a crappy one, I try to get as far away from the music as possible while still being at the party. And I stay that way for the rest of the night.

Evan Dando did a 20 minute acoustic set in the middle of the show for no reason. Jesus it was horrible.

Smartly Pretty, if we were friends IRL, I'd see your band at least once before coming up with excuses for getting out of seeing any show your band plays in the future.

Only once in my life did I have friends in a band that I actually liked. Of course they didn't even last six months.

Once is probably one too many times to see me drunkenly shout/slur the words to Bruce Springsteen covers and shitty songs I wrote tbh. I just had a lot of fun, and I liked the other bands. I mean, this was the first house show I've ever been to so maybe they do actually kinda suck, but man, that one the other night was pretty awesome.

One time I went to a house show where fisticuffs nearly broke out when two guys* got into an argument about where the exact center of the living room was. So yeah, they can be fun aside from the music.

* FUN FACT: One of these guys is currently a co-worker. The above happened a few years before either of us started working at the same place, however.

Oh man, I have so many friends in bands I like. At this point it's hard for me to imagine not being around a bunch of people making interesting music.

Maybe if you weren't so misanthropic they would have asked to be your friends.

It came down to religious differences, unfortunately. They were straight edge, and I was drinking a lot of beer and smoking a bunch of cigarettes. They gave me dirty looks all night.
