Astros look close to trading Kyle Tucker to the Cubs. Seven divisional championships in the last eight years, two World Series wins and two more league pennants. With Tucker out and Bregman likely to leave via free agency, the Astros' dominant run may be over.

Trade is done. Cubs traded Isaac Paredes, Hayden Wesneski, and Cam Smith for Tucker.

Some fans are worried cause Tucker is opting for free agency after the season, but this is the shot in the arm the Cubs needed. Tucker is the best position player they've had since 2015-17 Kris Bryant. I'm ecstatic.

Had to be done. Once they traded for Tucker, there was no room for Cody. Cody was great his first year, but the production last year didn't match his contract. I imagine he'll pick it up and hit like gangbusters at Yankee Stadium. Very likable guy that's easy to root for.

Edit: I read that they are only on the hook for 2.5 million for this year and next year if Cody opts in with the Yankees. Earlier reports were saying the Yankees wanted them to pay 12 million of the salary, so this is huge and makes the trade an even one imo.

White Sox acquired LHP Cam Booser from the Red Sox for RHP Yhoiker Fajardo.
Diamondbacks acquired INF Josh Naylor from the Guardians for RHP Slade Cecconi and a Competitive Balance Round B selection.
Reds acquired C Jose Trevino from the Yankees for RHP Fernando Cruz and C Alex Jackson.

Getting the band back together: Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Guardians are signing Carlos Santana to a one-year deal for $12 million.

Phillies signed OF Max Kepler to a one-year, $10 million contract.

Corbin Burnes to the DBacks at 6/210. Think I like that deal better than the Fried one. Although he has an opt out after 2.

Good deal for the Dodgers: Yancen Pujols reports that the Dodgers have re-signed outfielder Teoscar Hernández to a three-year, $66 million contract. Jeff Passan of ESPN adds that the contract includes a $15 million option for a fourth season, a $23 million signing bonus and more than $23 million in deferred money.

Aram Leighton of Just Baseball reports that the Yankees have signed Brennen Davis to a minor league contract. I remember when this guy had a lot of hype around him in the minor leagues but he seems to have fallen off a cliff since 2022 (.203 BA in 167 AAA games).

Verlander to the Giants on a 1 year deal. I guess if there’s a good place for him to pitch, SF would be the answer. I think he’s done but I would to see how close he can get to 300 wins so this isn’t a bad thing.

2.5 million is nothing to the cheap ass Ricketts. No way does he stay here, I can't see it if they are already disagreeing with a pay point. What an embarrassing state Chicago sports is in right now. Can't one of these cheap ass owners sell the team to someone that wants to win. They should try to go all out and keep this guy, but they won't and will overspend on more mid tier free agents while ignoring the true superstars because they are scared to pay or give them the years they want.

Robert Murray of Fansided reports that the Orioles backed out of a three-year, $40 million contract with right-hander Jeff Hoffman due to concerns about his shoulder. Sounds like they saw something in his physical they didn't like so Blue Jays signed RHP Jeff Hoffman to a three-year, $33 million contract instead.

Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors reports that the Cubs are signing Colin Rea to a one-year contract. That contract will reportedly pay him $5 million with a club option for 2026.

Andrew Kittredge is signing a one-year, $10 million deal with the Orioles, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

Nationals and LHP MacKenzie Gore avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.89 million contract. Reds and C Tyler Stephenson avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $4.925 million contract.

Not a big superstar but probably a good idea for the Cubs to sign Rea. He was consistently good for Milwaukee and they should've resigned him (and put him on the playoff roster).

It was fun to be excited for like a week.

Looks like the Mets won't be re-signing Pete Alonso. Going to miss him. It was a fun six seasons

Maybe other teams should also be good at their jobs.

- Andy Martino of SNY reports that the Mets are signing left-handed reliever A.J. Minter. Deal is reportedly 2 years for $22 Million.
- Héctor Gómez reported that the Astros offered Jorge Polanco a one-year, $4 million contract.
- Athletics signed RHP/SS Shotaro Morii to a minor league contract that includes a signing bonus of $1.5 million. Kind of a low-key interesting story considering the Japan to US transition usually: "Yet, his contract is significant because he’s the first high-profile Japanese prospect to skip Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) in Japan entirely and come to the United States as a professional. The 18-year-old will begin his professional baseball career as a two-way player, splitting time between shortstop and pitching."

So the Jays took on Myles Straw's awful contract in order to get a few more million in international signing money to pay Sasaki and a few hours later that completely blows up in their faces.

I can't see any way they would have made this trade unless they thought they had some assurances that he was signing in Toronto. No way a front office who's public image in the fans' eyes is so low would risk looking this dumb otherwise.

Ichiro, Sabathia, and Wagner in the HOF. Ichiro missed one vote, which of course was anonymous because no one's going to own up. I HATE that anonymous ballots are still a thing.

Andruw moved up ~5%. Two years left, I'm not optimistic at this point.

It’s rare for a player to clear 60% and not make the Hall. The best player on the ballot next year is Cole Hamels. I think the path is wide open.
