This might be the hardest Build Your Own Team exercise I’ve seen yet. Ended up deciding on Bird, Jordan, Shaq, Kawhi and Tatum. I don’t love it but I fear the alternative of Isiah/Steph instead of Bird/Kawhi might leave me too small, even though the playmaking gets better. I find more and more that Shaq ends up being my centerpiece in these exercises even more so than Jordan/LeBron.
LeBron, Hakeem, Magic, KG, Tatum, with Tatum masquerading as a shooting guard.

Bulls are 6-3 with wins over The Bucks, Heat, and 76ers since Zach LaVine went out with injury, and have been much more entertaining. Coby White has looked like a better overall player than LaVine and a borderline All Star for around 12 or 13 straight games now. I keep waiting for him to fall off and he keeps getting better. Coby is the first guy they drafted since Jimmy Butler to actually get better and look like a star as a Bull.

I thought he looked absolutely hopeless during the first 15 games or so, but Patrick Williams is getting better. Once again since Zach went out. He's more aggressive and his defense is really getting good. He's gonna be an elite defender in the next couple years imo.

Ayo is hot and cold, but has looked mostly solid for his role. Caruso is proving to be essential for the young guys and is making me agree with the decision to keep him. Coby might of overtaken him as my favorite player, but he's still the heart and engine that runs the Bulls. Two times tonight he came in the game and instantly made an impact and we went on a run. Coby, Pat, and Ayo are heavily influenced by his intense defensive style. Coby in particular has copied the way Caruso takes charges.

DeMar and Vooch even look better without Zach and are contributing and playing team basketball.

When Steph gets hot there is no one who can shoot like him. Insane performance tonight with 5 fouls.

just saw this as well, Shaq calls Steph better then himself and asks if its time to put him in the best player of alltime convo. I don't know if I'd go as far as that but if he keeps at this level for a few more seasons it's not unreasonable.

I owe Demar, Patrick Williams, and even Billy Donovan apologies.

DeMar is finding his rhythm and looks like his old self. He's also bought into the game plan and is playing faster and distributing more. He's playing like San Antonio DeMar while still showing that he can take over games.

Pat is really starting to find confidence. He's not putting up impressive scoring numbers, but he's scoring what I want (12-15 ppg) more often than not. He's the second best defensive player after Caruso and is really essential to the defense. He still has a ways to go, but I forget how young he is. He turned 22 in August. 25-28 year old Patrick Williams with his defense already being great and hitting his athletic prime could be scary.

I don't think I've said anything positive about Billy in these threads, but he's really impressing me lately. He's running a system and getting even the vets like DeMar and Vucevic to buy in. He's running more creative plays and has shown flashes of Florida Gators Billy Donovan.

Last night was the first time 5 Celtics have scored 20+ points in the same game since January 13th, 1987.

Nice to see Joe Mazulla’s conservative approach to using timeouts pay off. Mike Brown had blown through all of the SacKings timeouts by early in the 4th quarter.

Re: Steph Curry

I kinda respect the sentiment from Shaq but at the same time that's a pretty crazy statement to make after a regular season game in friggin' December.

Shaq's wrong too, you can't be a top ten all-time player without being on an All-Defensive Team. I don't care how much you score, that's a bar that top ten players have to clear. That's not hate, you just can't be one without that honor. The game is played two ways. I'm fully aware that what I said might apply to other great players and I stand by it. Top ten players put the clamps on someone.

Yeah, I think Magic has got to be the exception to that. He may not have been a great defender but like I couldn't see teams gameplanning to exploit his bad defense as a means to win. I think Curry has a lot of guys gunning for him. I'll be interested how this affects the ranking of someone like Jokic once his legacy is set.

May be worth pointing out as well that Magic did lead the league in steals twice, even if he was never All-Defense.

Kawhi Leonard is out tonight against OKC. I point this out because, on December 21st, this will be the first game Kawhi Leonard has missed this season.

Random stat:

Fewest minutes played with at least 1 each of the following: points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, 3FG

Ricky Wilson, a 6-3 PG on a 10-day contract with the 1988 Spurs, somehow managed to put up this statline in three minutes

6 pts. 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 1-1 3FG

The Spurs won the game over the Seattle SuperSonics by 2. Wilson would average 20 miinutes per game for the remainder of the season, even getting to start one game and make the postseason roster. However, he would play just 9 scoreless minutes over two games in the playoffs against the Lakers, and was not picked up by another team after the season.

The first player in NBA history to record 4 of the above stats in a game was Nick Anderson, on St. Patrick's Day in 1993. It has since been done two other times, by Robert Horry and James Harden. However, the Magic lost that 1993 game to the Dallas Mavericks, one of just 11 wins for the Mavs in the 1992-93 season.

A more notable win for that Mavs team was a win in Houston in the final game of the season. As a result of that Rockets loss, the Sonics would have homecourt advantage over them in their second-round playoff series due to the regular season tiebreaker. The Sonics would win that series in 7 games, perhaps robbing us of a much-debated Bulls-Rockets matchup in the Finals (the Rockets would beat the Suns the following two seasons in the playoffs).

Kinda wish Tom Gores would do something horrible in his personal life so Adam Silver could force a Pistons sale.

I don’t know where else to put this but through my gig I got to see this kid play today.

Hes actually grown to 6‘3. This kid is gonna play in the league. I didn’t know he was rated so highly until after I got home from watching him. He dropped 46 and made it look really easy. Kid was making circus shots and pull up 3’s like they were nothing. Tons of contested shots at the rim too. There was one bucket he scored in traffic that had the whole gym buzzing.

Andre Drummond scored 24 points and 25 rebounds last night. What year is it?
Honestly, he's been a bright spot even during the bad times, and he constantly busts his ass and tries. Arguably the best backup big in the league imo. Billy really needs to give him more minutes. Drummond should be playing 18-20 instead of 13. His energy always seems to get us going when he comes in the game. He's really embraced being a role player/bench guy and I like rooting for him. Seems like a genuinely good guy.

Edit: Vucevic out 7-10 days with a groin sprain, so we'll see if Drummond has anything left as a starter.
