Live is now Elite and we are under two weeks away from NBA Elite 11 and NBA 2K11 being launched. In lazy haste, I didn't find old threads, so I started a new one.

For the first time in a while, it seemed like some preferred Live to the 2K series. How does 2K top them this year?

Like they always have been, being much more realistic than Live's arcade romp, which at times isn;t a bad thing.

I don't know what's up with EA Sports recent inclusion of Obama having championship winning teams that will never win the title at the White House as part of the marketing for their games.

Edit: Just saw that's for 2K Sports... still don't get it.

I get an NBA game maybe every five years, I buy them when they're cheap used, and in the past I've liked the Live series a lot more than 2k. But 2k has Jordan this year + EA's bullshit online for new games only thing so I might buy 2k11 new this year.

But I think Live comes with NBA Jam so for those not immaturely refusing to buy new EA games there's a reason to go with Live.

I do like how pissed Del Negro looks that him and Obama are wearing the same suit while Baron is indifferent to it all.

LOL, they chose the CLIPPERS for that screenshot? They must have a good sense of humor at 2k.

I guess the tea party crowd won't be buying this game...

Tea Party crowd only loves real basketball teams like Duke and Indiana University.

I'm fairly impartial to either brand, so I buy NBA games solely based on who's on the cover and if I like them. NBA 2k11 has Jordan, "Elite" has Durant. Leaning towards 2k11 at the moment, although I couldn't care less about Jordan mode.

I still go with 2K myself, as I have since about 2004. I did find a copt of Live 10 a couple weeks back at a Blockbuster sans cover art for $9.99 so I picked it up and did like it better than that past few years of Live games that EA put out. I breezed through all the achievements with the exception of the online ones in like 2 times playing the game though, so I sold it off at a profit before the price dropped further. I will probably rent Elite to check it out but 2K is release date again for me. I think Live/Elite's quality went up because I think I remember one of the guys that was big in really bringing 2K to the top of basketball games had jumped over to EA. If 2K leaves as many glitchy things as they have and EA keeps improving, we may see the balance sway back to EA (except for, like someone mentioned, their stupid online play stuff).

Mike Wang, who had done the 2K series, took over Live last year. But he's already back at 2K this year, so who knows what that'll mean for EA.

EA's presentation and the inclusion of NBA Jam make Elite look really tempting, but everything I've heard about the new control scheme sounds awful.

From what I understand, the guy who was responsible for EA's NHL games becoming good is doing Elite, so take that as you will. I'm not a big Basketball fan, so I generally just pick up the one that gets better ratings or the one who's demo I like most. If both turn out to be good, I'll probably just flip a coin or something.

The guy who changed the EA hockey game deserves some kind of medal. It can't be overstated how much better those games play.

Maybe he should stick w/ hockey. I downloaded the Elite demo. If the old control system isn't available in the full version, i'm out on hoops games this year.

NBA Elite Impressions:
Considering NBA Elite downloaded first, I'm going to test out that demo. I'm going to admit that I like the fact that they teach you the new way to play, as it seems they are borrowing NHL's idea of using the right stick to move the hands and dribbling and everything, left stick moves. Not bad...

Wow... Shooting was hard to pick up, being able to move away from a dunk to a layup is kinda cool. I wish passing also used the right stick, because just using R2 to make a pass and needing to use the movement stick in the direction is idiotic.

Well I guess its game time! And wow, I did terribly for shooting. Its hard to figure out when exactly I should shoot. Its probably something I need to work on, but for a quarter's worth, I'll definitely say I enjoyed it. The controls are like NHL in which you need to get used to, but when you do, you'll do alright.

Though I seriously need to learn how to create my own shots, I sucked terribly. It doesn't help that you don't get the power bar to indicate exactly how much you need to do to get off a shot.

Time for Become Legendary! I wonder how much better it'll be than the NHL Be A Pro, because NHL always gets screwed in that regard. And the presentation for Become Legendary is already 20% better than Be A Pro with the introduction. Also having different players tell you how they "became legendary". Now hopefully I can play well... I'm playing PG so we'll see how good I do...

And I immediately become Alvin Iverson because my team sucks so badly (ie: stood around doing NOTHING). Also passing is totally botched. I figured you could use the right stick to aim the pass, but to aim a pass you need to use the left stick. Become Legendary is fine, but with the new shooting its going to be a lot harder.

NBA 2K11 Impressions:
- Man this demo was disappointing. It was easier shooting wise, but the controls felt jerky and besides playing a single quarter and just getting my feet wet. Like honestly that's all I can tell out of the game. If this is supposed to convince me to buy this over NBA Elite, its not happening.

So Peter Moore wrote on his blog that Elite is going to be delayed and the rumor is it might not come out at all. Instead, they are releasing NBA Jam for the PS3 and 360 as a standalone title, like they should have done in the FIRST place.

NBA Elite got delayed indefinitely. NBA Jam will ship as a separate, standalone game.

Saw it on Kotaku.com.

I wasn't sold until the part of MJ on other teams. Chris Paul lobbing alley-oops to Jordan? That trailer made it a win.

Wait, wait...so they have classic teams in there like the '98 Jazz, which means they have to have a digital John Stockton in the game....BUY!

I was excited that Shawn Kemp was there. I want to make a squad with Kemp and create 11 of his illegitimate children to round out the team.

I was hoping to see one of the Cavs teams that Jordan fucked in the soul make the cut, but no.

The 1989-90 Cavs are immediately available. Kind of an odd choice since they lost in the first round to the Sixers, and other than it being the season they traded Ron Harper for Danny Ferry, it was a pretty nondescript year.

I cannot believe The Shot (which happened the previous season) wasn't one of the Jordan moments included. THAT was the Cavs team they should've included.

Thank heavens. At least I can just have Mark Price dump 40 3s and beat the Bulls 120-119 . . . what's that, there's still 1.2 seconds to go . . . where's Jordan . . . oh shit!

I'll always associate Danny Ferry for those local yocal Mountain Dew ads he did in Cleveland. Yipes.

I went ahead and ordered 2k11 from Amazon so I'll get the $10 credit for a future game. Really looking forward to the Jordan stuff, not sure if I'll even bother with the regular game minus Jordan.

NBA 2K11 is a great game.

First of all when you start, if you let the intro go, you play one of the Jordan modes. I played against the Lakers. You could beast easily with Jordan but then they start to double. In this game you can't slack, at least not yet if you just started playing cause I lost by a point. But once you get it, it's great. I started an association with the Knicks and this year you need to run plays to get better shots, otherwise it'll be tough. At least to loosen up the defenses.

The best part of the game is just the feel of the players. You have more control and it feels smoother than ever before.
