Finally able to pick this up. The hardcore passing is great, and I can see its awesome potential even though right now I look like a retard trying to hump a doorknob. I'm going to have to really woodshed passes back to the blue line, since I love slappers from the point.

I'm loving the game, but some people are just frustrating to play online. I try to play as close to real hockey as possible. I clear the puck out the zone and occassional break out when short handed, cycle the puck on the PP to set up the shot from the point, and yes, I will go for a one timer if I'm on a 2 on 1 and the other guy is wide open. Some of these guys online constantly go for cheap goals, ad one guy last night literally played keep away and never crossed the red line for the last 10 minutes of the 3rd period while he was ahead 1-0. I can see protecting a lead, but that is just being an asshole in my books. I was going to quit the game, but I don't like quitting online games as I think its a cowards way out. I will stay playing till the end if I'm winning 5-0 or losing 5-0.

Luckily, I have a pretty good system for weeding out the cheap players. I simply quit the match if the other guy picks Pittsburgh, Washington or San Jose off the bat. Nothing against those teams, but the cheap players flock to them since they are offensively loaded.

My wireless has been flaky lately so I'm actually glad to not be dealing with some of the mouth breathers on XBL. Had some issues with people playing 09 on there, same things as Antileaf. Guys not attacking with a one goal lead but quitting when I tied it. One guy picked the Centennial Canadiens team and got pissed when I picked the East All Stars. Another guy couldn't play simple, basic defense. He would just go for the bone crushing hit and was giving me all these odd-man rushes. 2-1, 3-1, 4-2. He quit the game when I went up 6-0.

I haven't been playing much 10 lately. Been on a GTA4 fix.

Yeah, you really can't play with the same reckless abandon online as you do offline or it will bit you in the ass everytime. If they have me in my own end, I usually pick a D-Man, and you try to stay in the shooting lanes the whole time.

I'm 14 games into my Nashville franchise. Pekka Rinne is the best goalie in hockey right now, with a 1.05 (!) GAA, a .947 save percentage, and 3 shutouts, all tops in the league. He's also 5-7 because I'm very, very bad at scoring goals. Overall, the team is 6-6-2 and at least staying semi-competitive, but Rinne can't stay hot forever. Lines, and yeah, I've been trading and signing because this team is profoundly bad:

Lucic-Savard-Hemsky
Sullivan-Koivu-Tootoo
Olvecky-Legwand-Ward
Goc-Peca-Jones

Suter-Weber
Bouillon-Hamhuis
Klein-Franson

Aaaaand I've reached the point I reach every year where I get tired of losing games because the computer scores goals that I can't score (can't get rebounds because my teammates won't crash the net despite being very clear about "crash the net" strategy, shots from bad angles because the computer goalie isn't the worst, clean wristers from the slot because the computer goalie is the best/because I suck) and stop playing. In record time, too! If anyone wants to play online, though, hit me up. Getting outplayed by a person makes a lot more sense.

Once I get my router situation under control, I'll get on with you Wario. No idea when that will be of course.

In the meantime, I broke out the Sega last weekend and already have cleared out our local PlayNTrade of NHLPA 92, NHL 94, 95, 96 and 97. My god those games are still fucking fun as hell. Roommate and I had an epic series with the Blues v. Canucks that culminated in him almost breaking my controller because he put up 72 shots and scored 1 goal, whereas I scored 2 goals on 11 shots with Gretzky-to-Hull.

I played NHL 06 at a friend's house and was really struck by how much faster the game was (and also that the Red Wings have had virtually the exact same team for 5 years). We had some close games until he reminded me that there was a turbo button, at which point I started putting up ridiculous 11-0 and 14-1 scores on him and he gets an involuntary twitch in his eye every time he hears "YZERMAN SHOOTS HE SCOOOOORES".

Ok, I gave up and returned the game. I just can't take it crashing on me. I can't keep trying to play a game when all the effort I put into it fucks up and I need to restart. It was fine when it happened you know, at the start of something. But when I'm winning or losing a close game and its like 5 minutes to go, and it does this a few times, I can't take that.

Even I've got my limits. This just crossed it.

I just picked this up a couple weeks ago and the AI is retarded for trading. I straight up traded Hal Gill for Teemu Selanne and got rid of Andrei Kostitsyn and Josh Gorges for Barrett Jackman, Cam Jansen and a second rounder. Currently have a 10-3-1 record and Selanne is leading the league in scoring.

In my BAP I started out as a goalie and it sucked. I don't like the system and how if there is a scramble out front you have no idea where the puck is. And trying to play the puck is a hassle too. Went and started a RW Sniper and got drafted to the Thrashers. Three games, two goals two assists.

I forgot how much I love this game. I had only amassed 24 EASHL games since the game's release, as of 2 weeks ago. I was at Reign hockey games most Friday nights, and my team's official club play night has always been Friday since the NHL 09 was released. I did manage to finish a league again, though, this season.

But I played 2 Fridays ago and tonight, and I've practically doubled my games played. I just played with 2 friends from 5 P.M.-1 A.M. It was pretty awesome. I'm pretty sure I'll be on this game a good amount, at least during playoff time.

Speaking of the EASHL, I have been meaning to give it a shot, but I can never seem to find a team to play with. I may try to give it a shot with NHL 11 this year.
