One Album You Can't Live Without

Hall and Oates- Rock 'N' Soul Part 1

OK...cheesy as hell that I have a compilation by a band as cornball as Hall and Oates as the one album I can't live without but this is my go to album when I'm feeling like crap. I can't possibly listen to "You Make My Dreams" and "Private Eyes" and feel depressed.

Compilations shouldn't be eligible for this, if only to absolve you of the shame of picking Hall & Oates for this particular parlor game. We seem to be a little too hooked on Pick Your Mostest Favoritest the last couple days. We need a new angle or two. I'm going to go check out some new releases and probably complain about how much I don't like them and then upload that Ellington album I promised HarleyQuinn.

The new Bat For Lashes record is great. Check that out first, if you haven't already.

I haven't. I had No Line on the Horizon and It's Blitz! (way late to the party on both, I know) on the list. Is this going to sound like "What's a Girl to Do?" did, or is this completely different? That's my only experience w/Bat for Lashes.

That's a good idea, I was thinking of starting a Nilsson thread.

if it were non-compilations btw, I think it would be Abbey Road.

Most of it's got that same "gloomy synth" aesthetic, yes. Way more developed and interesting, though. There's a duet with Scott Walker on there!

I impulsively got excited for a second there before I realized I get off the Scott Walker train at Climate of Hunter. Even by his fourth album, the signal starts to break up for me a little bit. The arrangements aren't as bombastic, he gets away from the big theatrical voice (candidate for the "favorite voices" thread, big time), I don't think there are any Jacques Brel covers, so it's just not the same for me. Tilt just sounds goofy. Maybe it needs more time. Anyway I'll check out Bat for Lashes later today after I watch the Cubs lose.

Pink Floyd's Meddle. It's my favorite album of all time, and everything on it (yes, even "Seamus") works. It's the ultimate "listen to the thing as a whole" album too-skipping any song or moment on the album would ruin it, and when listened to as a whole, it's a mindblower. Plus "Echoes" may be my favorite song of all time.

London Calling for me if I had the choice of only one album ever to listen to for the rest of time. Cliche or whatever, I stand by it. Every track makes me want to burst into a singalong session, even after a bazillion listens. Shit, "Rudie Can't Fail" is my personal anthem lately.
