One of the best of his generation. 95.

pour one out for Tom Hagen and catch a wave for Lt. Col. Bill Kilgore

The ending scene in Falling Down is his finest work IMO. The old guard is dying off. Don't know if Pacino or Nicholson will survive the year.

Haven't heard much about Pacino, but hasn't Nicholson been a recluse for a while? I'd be most worried about him.

god damn time comes for them all but this guy was such a fucking presence from all his great iconic roles everyone knows to the mega blockbusters like Days of Thunder and despite winning the oscar for it, the criminally under seen Tender Merices which always knocks me on my ass with every viewing.

Pacino is 85 and not getting any younger. He has no known health issues and I hope he's around another decade at least but the reaper is bitch.

Nicholson is pushing 90 and isn't able to walk on his own anymore. He was seen publicly in my city lately not looking great. Shame as he's probably my GOAT.

The consigliere and one of the great Twilight Zone characters.

The Apostle is underrated.

He'll always be Lucky Ned Pepper to me.

Legend for like 6 decades. What a career. He was still pretty good in that Sandler NBA scout movie from earlier this decade. And then you can go back to his memorable role in To Kill A Mockingbird and his tv western career. One of the goats.

RIP

Also, us short kings live forever, so Pacino ain't going anywhere until he's 107.

I honestly don't want to think about big Al. I still think he's in great shape enough to make it til his 90's and short people are known to live longer. I hope the same for DeVito and Pesci.

I don't think anyone ever said a bad word about the man, which really says a lot about him. RIP to one of the greats (also, if you haven't, watch "The Outfit" if you havent)

Jack should live forever. I love that guy.

I just don't want Dustin Hoffman as the last man standing of the era.

I saw Duvall say on several occasions that his favourite role he ever played was that of Augustus McRae in Lonesome Dove, and I can see why. What a career this guy had, almost too many great performances to mention. What a loss. They don’t make them like him anymore.

RIP

What a career and a genuine icon for multiple generations of people. I've always loved coming upon him in Deep Impact too, underrated role.

alltime goat for sure. I have no idea how many of these guys are left at this point really. Feels like we're losing at least a half dozen a year.

Duvall and Bruce Dern are the last real bridges from old Hollywood to new, it feels like.

Eastwood might count. Guy started in bit parts in sequels to Creature From The Black Lagoon and then did some great New Hollywood movies like High Plains Drifter, The Outlaw Josey Wales, The Beguiled, and Play Misty For Me and still directed a movie in 2024.

I wouldn't argue against Clint, but I guess I see Dern who did things like Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte and Duvall who did things like To Kill A Mockingbird as extremely unique in that there are just no real ties to a lot of the old days the way they are. Like you can trace them to Bette Davis or Gregory Peck directly. It's just weird to think about. It's like it shouldn't be possible to be in To Kill A Mockingbird and Gone In 60 Seconds.

I mean I agree with Brock. You can tie Clint to friggin Rock Hudson, then go all the way to guys like Nicholas Houlte, Michael Pena and the juggalo kid from it’s always sunny. That’s actually insane to write out, he might be the best example.

I would say Jack is in that category too.

RIP Duvall. Titan of the screen and he did it by being an every man almost every time out. Lots of amazing performances across genres, budgets and eras. Amazing career.

Lonesome Dove is one of my Dad's favorite westerns ever and Duvall is a big reason. I should finally get around to watching it.

Ouch. And now only Al Pacino remains.

95 is a hell of a run, and he leaves behind a filmography that’ll outlive all of us. Robert Duvall had more range than almost any actor over the past 50 years. I never saw Duvall in his roles. I only saw the character. He disappeared into every performance and made it feel completely real.

And since we’re bringing up older actors: Has anyone checked on Michael Caine (who starred with Duvall in Secondhand Lions) lately?

It’s 6 hours long, but well worth it. It’s based on a Pulitzer Prize winning novel, and it’s one of the few adaptations I can ever remember being 100% faithful to the source material.

Also, it came out in 1989 if I remember correctly, and was pretty much the project that introduced Tommy Lee Jones to the world. There are many who have called it the greatest Western of all time, and there’s certainly a case to be made for that.
