I know I've been making a lot of "This '80s wrestler when he was in the '80s was younger than this current wrestler is now" posts lately

But Harley Race at the '89 Royal Rumble was three years younger than Jericho is now. Unbelievable.

I friggin love everything about this match. Especially Brain trying to root for both guys.

The match just dies after the Mega Powers stuff and it's a total shame.

Pat hadn’t locked down his finish skills for the rumble yet clearly cuz that could have been tighter and kept the energy.

Either you do it way earlier in the match and justify why Dibiase had to make the number swap with Slick and build the match back up or you do the mega powers spot right at the end with Dibiase thinking he outsmarted them only to get foiled by the massive hoss across the ring.

The finish is the way, I think. But honestly there's a way bigger argument for Dibiase winning the Rumble than anything else so it all works out.

Re-watching the Rumble Match and Ax & Smash being 1/2 still holds up as one of the better opening bits just because they didn't even feign "should we fight/you're my partner" and just went right at each other. Bonus for doing the classic shoulder blocks spot.
