Sherri is dressed almost exactly like Willow the Wisp on this show. It's uncanny.

I really love the implication that Jim Duggan is offscreen leading a search party for Sapphire. Who all do you think was creeping around checking inside laundry hampers and pancake kitchens for her. It couldn't be Shawn; he was killed by Power 'n Glory. Tito was in the next match against Warlord. Remind me to drop a Warlord Tale later.

During their entrance, when they're wearing their masks, Vince can tell it's Smash and Crush. Later on, he can't tell Ax apart from anybody.

Vince and the ref being dumbfounded at who was who in Demolition was my earliest memory of questioning booking logic (without really realizing I was going that).

This is the first time I've ever seen this Summerfest. I took a break to get a haircut and found a froyo joint peddling pancake and syrup flavored yogurt. I got a cup in honor of Sweet Sapphire. I hope they find her.

This show has a special place for me, since it was the first WWF PPV coming up when I started watching wrestling. And just as I was about to talk about how it was underwhelming, it wasn't really that offensive either.

Earthquake took quite the beating in that match between the bodyslam on the table & Big Boss Man's chairshots.

Is this the PPV where Randy Savage finally beats Dusty Rhodes?

Even as a mark I still loved Macho Man and I was pissed to watch him and Sherri (who I had the hots for) bump around at Wrestlemania 6 and get beat up by those two fat pieces of trash.

I was so happy when Macho beat that fat piece of dump Dusty at this PPV.

I think I've hated Dusty ever since.

Macho got the win at Summerslam & Sherri beat Sapphire by forfeit. About a month later, Macho beat Dusty on the SNME Oktoberfest episode too. All with a little help from the Million Dollar Mind, of course.

The thing I think about most from this show recently is Piper’s commentary. He had *just* replaced Jesse at the last TVs and it seemed like he was almost trying to copy his style to a degree, as the “tell it like it is” color man, most notably being seemingly pro-Rude in the main event, and calling Vince out on his selective memory with whether he can or can’t tell the members of Demolition apart at certain times. In later shows however he’s much more generic pro-babyface commentator. I’ve always wondered if this was an order from Vince to change his style?

Hart Foundation vs. Demolition was the best match on the card. The Hitman & The Anvil brought the work rate for this night, as they always did.

Fantasy rebooking: LOD challenges the Demos upon their debut in July and win the belts straight up here to hot shot them as headliners.

Bret and Anvil part ways after a failed match vs Demos on SNME. Anvil works Warlord or Barbarian in a hoss fight at Summerslam. Bret steps in for the injured Beefcake and kick starts his singles career by winning the IC belt.

Bret winning kind of cucks Bossman as the final boss of the Heenan family now has no gold, but maybe Hennig can screw Bret out of it in early 91 or something.

I also had a random reel on my Facebook feed tell me that Bulldog was the original choice to replace Beefcake at this show but he had visa issues or something. Not sure I quite buy that one. Any truth to it?

He has zero matches on wrestlingdata from May (AJPW) to Oct (His WWF return) so it makes sense they were trying to bring him in and having issues.

It just didn’t make sense to me because Davey had no credibility as a singles wrestler at that time, at least in WWF. But I guess you could argue that WWF fans didn’t really know Kerry and the seemed to take to him fine.

It’s a little bit like how fans now say “what if Andre could have been in the 1991 Rumble and had a face off with Undertaker”. In hindsight it’s fun to imagine but not sure if it really resonates in real time in 1991.

They'd do the same thing when business was down in 95. My guess is they wanted Ratings Giant Warrior since Attendance Giant Warrior wasn't happening

It probably would've helped if Rude had won the SNME match or at least look better.

Rude was booked so poorly in that match that you have to think it was on purpose to make him look bad. Meltz has said Vince never saw Rude as a main event heel

Kerry was supposed to wrestle Arn at the June 90 Clash but backed out to go the WWF. Maybe more evidence Davey Boy was the original choice for that spot. They pivoted and went after KVE.

Not sure how quick it all came together. Beefer vs Perfect is in the WWF mag as the IC title match. Beefer gets hurt July 4th. Kerry works the SNME taped around July 18 and aired 10 days or so later.
Perfect works Tito on SNME IIRC

Summerslam 90 is one of the most fun overall shows ever for me but man that main event could've been something special. It's the most **1/2 match I've ever seen.

There's not a great option B for Warrior unless he gets Quake. Perfect had just bombed as a Hogan foe leading up to Mania. Sarge could have been hot shotted and maybe they could "steal" a buyrate to paraphrase Corny. Dibiase would have been fine but after 1000 losses to Hogan and Savage I don't think he moves business vs Warrior.
If you trust Hogan to carry the show (which they basically did anyway) then you could try Warlord or Barb if you heat them up after the split.
Maybe run Warrior teaming with Hercules and have Roma run in for the heel turn with Warlord adding to the beat down to set things up. Akeem can even splash him a few times to aid in the Warrior-cide.
Maybe the LOD come in as Warrior's pals and Summerslam is a six man blow off?

Quake is the only option and the correct one. Hogan eating up Quake was extremely short sighted.

Idk I thought Quake was pretty protected throughout that feud. SummerSlam was a count-out and Quake even got to beat him up some after the match. No decision at SSeries. Hogan dumped him from the Rumble which was the closest thing to a strong win on TV, and in the blowoff on The Main Event Bravo ate the pin for him. It was just hard to follow up with him because you had Sarge waiting and Warrior had the hot feud with Macho after which Taker was ready. Bad luck for Quake but to me that was about the best any heel had come out of a feud with Hogan to that point.

When I first rented this I was so excited for macho vs dusty, and then the match being what it was so disappointing. On this stage, these guys could have had a classic that we still talk about decades later.

Wait…Did they shoot to different versions of Quake taking out Hulk on the Brother Love Show? I have zero recollection of the one on the left.
