Year two of the Joe Biden administration start this week. He finds himself with low approval ratings, an ineffective and uncooperative Congress, and a labor and inflation crisis. Not to mention the whole panini pandemic going on. Can he right this ship or will we have two one term POTUS in a row for the first time in 40+ years*? Discuss ITT!

Edit- I forgot Ford and Carter. Also a drab and miserable time in history but at least those guys didn't have a pandemic to worry about!

My best prediction for the next ten years is Biden loses in 2024 to Trump and/or Ron DeSantis. Mid 2020s are a horrifying slog that make the last five years look like the Eisenhower administration and we either elect an actual progressive reformer who'll begin digging us out of the hole in 2028 or continue our ass stumbling descent into a second civil war.

But also I think Biden *is* self aware enough that if he's this (or even more) unpopular this time next year that he will bow out and let someone else run in 2024. Idk if things will necessarily get worse though than they are now. I do think things will get marginally better this year and he'll be able to stabilize approval ratings in high 40s-low 50s before "OMG HOW COULD THE DEMOCRATS LOSE TO THE ASPIRING FASCIST!?" happens again.

I am of the belief that Trump has used up most of his GOP good will. His toadies are either turning heel on him or indicted, the 1/6 Committee should wear some shine off him, and in general sometimes people burn through their political capital faster than others (esp in a wide scale election that isn't gerrymandered to Hillbillies.) Plus Trump's promos have become stale now, with his own audience giving him heat for suggesting science works.
I cite Gov Scott Walker for one. He went from super hero, to Presidential candidate, to losing an election in his own power base within a matter of years.

They can't pass voting rights. That can't kill the filibuster. They can't do jack shit. They knew going in they wouldn't be able to do it either so they were just throwing up their hands ready for a defeat.

This was also a huge gaffe. He essentially gave the green light to Russia to invade before trying to take it back after. All of the US allies are freaking the fuck out.

I also think even if Biden manages to grind out a win, I don't think things will be *that* much better from 2025-29. Unless the left stands up and fights back harder than I think we're in for an ugly, ugly decade.

Informal assessment from riding around a lot of rural areas in a purple state the last 10 years but there were marginally more Biden signs than Clinton or Obama signs (I wonder white). Democrats' messaging is so fragmented that even the Republican Party's which really only appeals to a increasingly small minority of the population gets more amplified and emphasized. Bernie came closest to getting it right in terms of trying to appeal to the lower class but still never found a way to find broad appeal among BIPOC.
