It's fine to dislike Meltzer and point out his flaws. He's absolutely crossed the line before by saying stupid shit just like everyone else. He's also been wrong on several things that he, much like his detractors, is too stubborn to admit.
My problem are the people thinking he has no merit at all and has always been a conman. Fucking LOL to that. The dude was and still is essential to the wrestling business and the majority of the people will always take his word, whether valid or not, as gospel in breaking news in every single company. Every other "'rasslin journalist" gets a large portion of their information from Dave. Every single wrestling website will have news taken directly from the Observer. I get that Bischoff hates him for all the shit he's said about him over the years but his line "he's always been a scam artist" is laughable.
And on the star rating thing. He certainly over-exaggerates but I look at stuff like that and say "woah buddy, it wasn't quite at that level but it was still pretty good". The problem are others drawing battle lines either going "OMG WHY CAN'T YOU SEE THAT WAS THE BEST MATCH EVER" to "Lol, that shit was weak. Meltzer's an idiot, NJPW shill". While I don't think something like the Omega/Okada series are the best set of matches to ever occur inside a wrestling ring, can't we all just agree that at the very least, it was very good?
