Developer: CD Projekt RED | Publisher: WB Games
Platform: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One | Release Date: May 19, 2015
Genre: Action-RPG | Modes: Single-player

Plot
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt concludes the story of the witcher Geralt of Rivia, the series' protagonist, whose story to date has been covered in the previous versions. Continuing from The Witcher 2, the ones who sought to use Geralt are now gone. Geralt seeks to embark on a new and personal mission, whilst the world order itself is coming to a change. Geralt's new mission comes in dark times as the mysterious and otherworldly army known as the Wild Hunt invades the Northern Kingdoms, leaving only blood soaked earth and fiery ruin in its wake; and it seems the Witcher is the key to stopping their cataclysmic rampage.

Gameplay
The setting is more than "30 times larger" than previous Witcher games, requiring players to use a sailboat to some locations and ride by horseback to others. However, fast travelling around the areas of known locations are also possible. The Witcher 3 has been described as "20% bigger than Skyrim".

CD Projekt RED has said that it is not necessary to have played the previous games to fully enjoy Wild Hunt. While similar to the previous Witcher games, Wild Hunt has improved on several aspects from past games. Combat revolves around an action role-playing game system combined with the use of magic. The fighting system has been completely revamped. Wild Hunt introduces some new mechanics, such as witcher-sense, combat on horseback, and at sea, swimming underwater, and using a crossbow. Additionally, Geralt can now jump, climb, and vault over smaller obstacles. The climbing mechanics have been described as "not exactly" like Assassin's Creed, but more "similar to what we have in Uncharted." Item creation and potion brewing still remains as in previous games, but has been modified from The Witcher 2. There are 10 witcher signs, 5 original ones, each having 1 alternative form.

Each action the player does will affect the world; every quest has a plethora of options on how to complete it, and every outcome is different each time. CD Projekt RED anticipates approximately 100 hours for the completion of the game, 50 of them belonging to side quests, and 50 belonging to the main story line.

The game features a dynamic day and night system, realistic AI, responsive and dynamic environments. The day and night cycle will influence some monsters and their powers, similar to how a werewolf would gain powers during the night of a full moon. The game also features a dynamic beard growth system, in which the beard of the playable character Geralt will grow when he travels between regions. According to the developer, the beard will grow "in different states". However, this feature will not be available after the player downloaded the free Beard and Hairstyle DLC.

Ciri, an exceptional swordfighter with mythical powers, will be a playable character for part of the game.

Review embargo was lifted today, and it's been getting some pretty good scores. Including GameSpot's ninth-ever 10.

Damn. If that's what this series brings to the table in the game, this series should be a helluvalot more popular.

Now. I'm not one to jump on the graphics = ratings bandwagon, but Jesus I was shocked at how bland these environments look. I think witcher 2 had nicer visuals. I think some film grain would help soften the blow tbh.

I on the other hand think this is one of the best games visually I've ever seen...

Including the environments. Even the open forest in the middle looks different depending on what part of the map you're at. So, interesting.

Apparently there is some huge controversy over the PC graphics being downgraded. I haven't read that much on it but CDPR have said they are going to patch it up soon.

Honestly, out of all the amazing stuff this game has, I think horse combat has been one of the most fun things for me lol.

Running into one of those "Abandon Sites" or Bandit Camps, and chopping down like 10 guys while never getting off the horse is fucking awesome. Especially since every slice is nearly a guaranteed beheading, or slice their body in half. It's just a hell of a site to see.

I keep getting unhorsed but I'm still level 1 and I also set it to the second highest difficulty. I think I'm going to go back to normal.

Just have like 30-45 minutes in to this but I'm already very impressed. Graphics are remarkably great.

Pro-tip, if you hold down the attack button, it'll go slow motion. So it gives you plenty of time to line up your shot. So essentially you will just charge through, slice as many guys as you can..and keep running until the horse's fear level goes back down. Then just turn around, repeat.

Ended up not turning down the difficulty and I'm glad. I can easily die in any battle if I fight like an asshole and that's refreshing. Some, I die and figure out the strategy and then go complete it next time. I'm still not super far, mostly doing quests for the blonde mage - just purged an island. Still waiting to encounter Triss Merigold and Dandelion.

I can't believe how many ?s are in Velen and there are even more areas to go. Unreal the size of this game.

This might legit be the best game I've ever played. The depth on these stories is incredible.

There is a special at Best Buy where you can get this game for $25 with purchase of the system. They screwed up when they first did the deal yesterday and made this $25 straight up, or $20 with their Gamers Club. I didn't see until after it had been well exploited and they did a price change but for anyone getting an X1, they can get the Halo bundle, pick up something as the free game promo right now and then tack this on for $25 at Best Buy.

I'm still towards the beginning of Act 2 so these changes still have plenty of time to help me out.

I played this past the tutorial so I've already gone farther here than I did with II. I am getting kind of afraid of all these ? that are starting to pop up everywhere.

The cave in the Bloody Baron quest is a badly designed pile of bullshit.

That is fucking ALL. Also, I really don't like the movement in this game at all.

Playing the expansion. This frog boss is hard as fuck. I haven't even gotten 1/4 his energy gone in about 10 attempts.
