I absolutely thought it was Ben Gibbard singing the first several times I heard snippets of this song. More like Bowel City!

I think we're far enough removed from when it came out to admit that, eyerolling lyrics aside, "Such Great Heights" isn't a bad song. But then I still contend that We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes is a good album.

I liked the Dntel parts of the Postal Service, so I guess I agree with you there. "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight" always sounded pretty cool if I didn't listen to what was being said. They lost me at that "freckle in your eye" thing, though. I also can't get over the likelihood that Ben Gibbard has ejaculated on Zooey Deschanel's face at least 5 or 6 times.

The lyrics are easy to ignore in 1) Starbucks and 2) in a nightclub. I can't recall the last time I've actually, actively listened to the song.

Gibbard didn't start descending into totally goopy Hallmarkisms until around The Photo Album, but that one still managed a few good songs. Starting with Transatlanticism and going forward, I've no truck with DCFC. Gibbard became a complete sap and the band fully embraced the commercial radio-rock sound I guess they were heading for anyway.

I remember really liking this song in like 2003, but I don't remember making a big stink about it. Nonetheless, people think I like Death Cab For Cutie.

The video for "Fireflies" is stunning. The dude actually hits a button labeled "MAGIC" and then shit in his room starts lighting up and moving around like he's Trumpy or something.

he completely has a little bit of queer in him. I mean what normal person sings about fireflies. And is it me or is he a little to big for that room. And sorry to break it to you but fireflies don't do the foxtrot

Gareth Gates topped the European charts with his version of unchained melody.

That's FAR from the worst abomination that's topped the UK charts! ....well, maybe not FAR far. But if we're extending it to that then consider everything in this thread, besides maybe My Humps, out-shittified.

Did this not ever make it to the US?

Crazy Frog - Axel F: US Clean Version

I know it was supposed to be annoying and supposed to be tongue-in-cheek. And maybe the first time you heard someone making the bike sound, it might have been funny. But over and over and over again? My God, no.

And if we're talking actual comedy songs, I remember being a kid and this being No 1 at Christmas. I was substantially more excited about watching the video then than I ever have been since, will be again or should have been in the first place. This is what it was like to grow up as a child in England.

Yeah, Crazy Frog made it to the U.S. a few years ago during my freshman year of college. Didn't last too long from what I remember.

Haha. No really they don't do anything that interests me at all.

That's their appeal. They're too low key to step on anybody's toes with their music, and are therefore suited for any occasion.

I always thought of them as the most vanilla of all indie. Well, them or the Shins, another band I don't like.

I like the Shins a lot, or at least Chutes Too Narrow. I think that one is a collection of really strong melodies, and it's varied (or at least has the illusion of being varied) enough to not come off too vanilla.

I like a handful of Death Cab songs, too, spread throughout their whole career. But I don't go crazy with it or anything.

Re: The Shins: "New Slang" is a pretty great song that was ruined by its inclusion in a really awful movie. The saddest part is that the song never aspired to be anything more than a neat indie pop tune with a cool fade in, but Zach Braff had to go and make his manic pixie dream girl declare it a life-changing musical experience, and so now I'm forced to hate it...........but I still secretly love it!...please don't tell anyone...... :-\

Hmm...

Kinda looks a combo of Ashley Tisdale and Taylor Swift on crack. I don't know what to think about this.

Not a number one, but I just discovered that Owl City has a song called "Dental Care."

I brush my teeth
And look in the mirror
And laugh out loud
As I'm beaming from ear to ear

I'd rather pick flowers
Instead of fight
And rather than flaunt my style
I'd flash you a smile
Of clean pearly whites

I've been to the dentist
A thousand times, so I know the drill
I smooth my hair, sit back in the chair
But somehow I still get the chills

Have a seat
He says pleasantly
As he shakes my hand
And practically laughs at me

Open up nice and wide
He says, peering in
And with a smirk he says,
"Don't have a fit, this'll just pinch a bit"
As he tries not to grin

When hygienists leave on long vacations
That's when dentists scream and lose their patience

Talking only brings the toothaches on
Because I say the stupidest things
So if my resolve goes south
I'll swallow my pride with an aspirin
And shut my mouth

Golf and alcohol don't mix
And that's why I don't drink and drive
Because, good grief, I'd knock out my teeth
And hafta kiss my smile goodbye

I've been to the dentist
A thousand times, so I know the drill
I smooth my hair, sit back in the chair
But somehow I still get the chills
