Figured it might be nice to have a thread like this like at the old board. I've only picked up one album so far in 2010, the new Vampire Weekend. A lot different than the first album, for better or worse. The two singles they released, Horchata and Cousins, are my least favorite songs on the album by a mile. I like some of the slower ones here. If you hated the self titled then you're probably gonna hate this too, though.

Really looking forward to this:

I've heard three 2010 albums. Contra, which I liked, The Monitor by Titus Andronicus which technically hasn't released yet but holy shit is it good, and Romance is Boring by Los Campesinos which is more of the same from them.

Beach House – Teen Dream
Grouper/Roy Montgomery split
Vampire Weekend – Contra
Xiu Xiu – Dear God, I Hate Myself
Lindstrøm & Christabelle – Real Life Is No Cool
Surfer Blood - Astro Coast
Four Tet - There Is Love In You
The Magnetic Fields - Realism
BOAT - Setting The Paces
Charlotte Gainsbourg - IRM
Retribution Gospel Choir - 2
Yeasayer - Odd Blood
Hot Chip - One Life Stand
Toro Y Moi - Causers Of This

The ever updating list of 2010 albums I've heard. Contra is my favorite so far, probably. Defying Mik's projection, I like it a lot, and I hated the three or so songs I heard from the debut.

Could you perhaps maybe post a rapidshare for that bad boy? I've been looking all over for it and thus far have been sadly unsuccessful.

It's pretty fantastic. The vocals are nice enough, but they basically only exist so that 'Strøm can record his genre excursion in Quincy Jonesesque pop. The transitions from song to song are really fluid, and the whole thing has a great feeling of spontaneity to it. Probably the best thing he's been involved with to date.

Yeah, it's pretty awesome. Probably better than the Vampire Weekend, but I've only listened to it once so far.

How's that Xiu Xiu album? Fabulous Muscles and The Air Force are the only releases of theirs (his) that I like, but I try to give all of their new albums a listen at least once.

I've also only listened to that one once, but it's much poppier and less tortured, at least on the surface, than his previous albums. I like it, and I'm not the biggest Xiu Xiu fan.

So hey, this new Surfer Blood album is excellent. Lately all I want to hear are killer guitar riffs and harmonies, and this one is packed with both.

This is crazy. Thank you.

Also downloaded the new Xiu Xiu. Only listened to the first track so far but it's good.

Avril is the punky rock girl and Ke$sha is the edgy club hopping chick and avril would never be caught singing a song like hungover. its just not her style.

So that Surfer Blood album doesn't hold up to repeated listens, and the new Magnetic Fields album is pretty crappy. And I liked i and Distortion a lot.

Yeah, it's good.

Also, the new Charlotte Gainsbourg is rad. Her singing gives me an erection, I wish I didn't have Beck to thank for this.

I like the one song where Beck constructed the beat entirely out of the sound of Gainsbourg's mutilating her vagina in Antichrist.

I'm liking the new Magnetic Fields so far. Much better than I like "Distortion".

No way.

I know there's a few Low fans here, what do we think of Retribution Gospel Choir? It's Alan Sparhawk's more rockin' side project/band. I'm listening to their newest album for the first time now. Pretty good. Riffy, in a Built To Spill kind of way, but still has that Sparhawk haunting quality.

You Must Be Out of Your Mind. Not that I was a massive fan of Distortion, but Realism is way too syrupy and most of the vocals are terribly annoying.

The opening track is excellent (if nothing new for the band), but I have no use for songs like The Doll's Tea Party and We Are Having A Hootenanny.

To those of you who haven't heard the album, those two songs are just as stupid as they sound.

The second track on the new Yeasayer album is incredible. I don't really care for this band very much, but oh my god.

In about an hour I will be able to answer Mik's question about the new Hot Chip.
