I'm watching Titanic on PlutoTV, right now with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. This was my mother's favorite movie. What's your expert opinion of this awesome movie?

Entirely too long but not a bad film overall. Kate and Leo are great as is Billy Zane. It also had a GOAT line: "I'd rather be his WHORE than your WIFE!".

The 4K release makes it especially pop. I can see the argument for it being too long but it's really well paced given its length and the romance story, simple as it is,/acting of Kate Winslet & Leo (plus their chemistry) is up there was one of the best in cinema history. There's a reason it made a bazillion dollars back in the days with girls alone and the actual sinking scenes are still pretty intense.

My memory is going to see it at the second run theater after milking cows. We stopped at McD's or something for supper in the same parking lot and wound up walking in a few mins late. We sat behind 2 old women who talked a lot. They popped for Billy Zane (?) having the money tossed back in his face.

I honestly just remember riffing on it and ruining people's good time and Winslet boobs. I should watch it as an adult.

It cemented Cameron's slide from an amazing director to a great technical artist, as it's devoid of any of the hope-masked-by-cynicism of his 80s classics or the proper utilization of story and SFX of a T2.

It really did sour me on Cameron forever. Like I just automatically think of the douchebag at the Oscars when he gets brought up

I took a girl to see it on our first date. I laughed at something when the boat started sinking. Not sure how there was a second date after that.

Ah Titanic, First date with my first high school girlfriend. As teens do we spent more time looking at each other than the film. It was such a significant milestone for our relationship that I bought the soundtrack for our spring prom car ride to dinner, photos, and the dance itself. After the relationship fell apart nearly 2 years later, my dad would routinely roast me any time Celine Dion's song was mentioned or played. Anytime the film was referenced or on TV, same. I grew to loathe all things associated.

2012: It was rereleased to theaters with a 3D touch. I took Mrs. SFH to see it with intentionality. I went in with an open mind determined to judge it on its merits as an adult, without all of the teenage bullshit I left behind. Also the hopeless romantic in me thought, "saw it with my first, might as well see it with my last." I loved it. As with any 3 hour film, it hurt not getting up to go pee but I wanted to see every single scene. The 2012 rerelease gave me an opportunity as an adult to appreciate this film and the work that went into it.

A few years later, I watched Celine Dion sing "My Heart Will Go On" live right after her husband had passed away. I fell in love with the song all over again. Dion's emotions unburdened me of my childish hangups over the song (entire album really).

I've been quite accountable about my delayed maturity in life, it's interesting to see pieces of this film as markers in that journey.

I have said in the past that I went to see the Green Mile. When the dude's head starts on fire, the theater was gasping/sad. I was howling with laughter.
I inappropriately laughed in The Butterfly Effect with the dynamite rolled to the toddler and she gleefully exclaimed, "sparkler!" And then boom followed by a few people turning in my direction and my one bud going, "dude, you're a fucking dick."

I actually watched this movie for the first time since I saw it in theaters with my brothers FIL when we were on vacation in Oregon, as I drunkenly admitted to him that my biggest fear would be getting stranded on a sinking ship. VERY drunkenly admitting!
