What Are You Playing?

Gonna start working on my backlog of games, and I've been playing The Last of Us Part II recently. Also getting into Evoland 2 on Steam.

Jumping back and forth between the latest GTA Online update (which has made the game more fun than its been in years) and Division 2 (which is getting another Season soon), gearing up for Helldivers 2 in February.

Been playing Balatro on PC and it's insanely addictive. "Combine valid poker hands with unique Joker cards in order to create varied synergies and builds. Earn enough chips to beat devious blinds, all while uncovering hidden bonus hands and decks as you progress. You’re going to need every edge you can get in order to reach the boss blind, beat the final ante and secure victory."

Recently played through Cyberpunk 2077, and play a little bit of FTL here and there, but it's basically been Final Fantasy XIV all the time this year.

Busted out Spelunky and Dead Cells for the first time in a while. Low stakes and fun as he'll even if I suck.

Also going to give MGSV another playthrough soon, I think. Been years

I started the current expedition but I'm just not feeling this one. Finished the first phase but don't think I'm going to get much further.

I've been playing a fair bit of Rivals of Aether 2. It's fun, but like all platform fighters, I'm often like "why aren't I playing melee right now instead?"

Still kicking it with Everybody's Golf on my new PS5 and gonna be installing NBA 2K25 shortly. I did see friggin' COOL BOARDERS in the Playstation Store so I may need to get that thing ASAP. Anybody know if it's just a remastered version or if it's the PS1 version?

I've been digging into my old games bag, and Star Trek Birth of The Federation still has an active community keeping it alive despite coming out 25 years ago. It's one of my favourite 4x games along with Civ 2 and Master of Orion 2.

Waiting on the PS Store to drop Cool Boarders 2 just for the half-pipe mode. Finished off Epic Mickey Rebrushed and that was a lot of fun, great enjoyable game.

My Dad traded in my PS4 for a Nintendo Wii at our local Gamestop (they had to order/ship the Wii). He snagged the Sonic & Mario Winter Olympics & London 2012 Olympic Games as well as Wii Party 1 & 2. I ordered for him for Christmas: Wii Play (mainly for the Duckhunt-esque shooting game), Mario Kart Wii, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl Wii. Also ordered him a couple "Classic" controllers just in case.

I remember someone at school my freshman year telling me about that game and thinking he was such a nerd.

I should try it out.

Reminds me, I'm trying FTL again. Maybe it'll take now.

Metaphor ReFantazio is really good so far. Not Persona good IMO but really great.
Finished this the other day and yeah not as good as the Persona games. I maxed out all the social bonds, and everything else in the first play through which I don't think I've ever done in a Persona game. I was left with nothing to do for the last week or so of the game before the big finale. TBF I play on a low difficulty setting because I'm just here for to chill out.

This is one of the worst endings to a game of alltime lol.

All of the JL that Brainac brainwashed and the Suicide Squad killed throughout the game were actually clones. Except Wonder Woman who wasn't brainwashed and struggled with the idea of killing her friends. She's dead. Tim Drake is most likely dead. All of this takes place in the Arkhamverse.

No Man's Sky got a new 20 gig update today. Looks like a good time for a whole new save.

Star Trek Online. Hadn't played in ~13 or 14 years. Bought a lifetime subscription when it first launched so I started getting a monthly stipend of the paid currency when they switched to free to play. Came back to ~$800 of paid currency in my account. ALL THE SHIPS.

Stayed up late and spent a few hours trying to snag a Switch 2 pre-order, but to no avail. Back in the day I would have been content to wait in line at 4am somewhere, but I think I’ll just wait (hopefully) several months on this one. I think I would rather have a new Donkey Kong game to play around Christmas time anyways (for the sake of nostalgia).

In the meantime: I finally got into the rom-hacked classics (mostly snes era). I cannot recommend these games enough (if you are like me and sat on the sidelines the last 20 years). Mostly I’ve been playing Mario and Donkey Kong variations - but am curious about Zelda (and anything really). I love this era of gaming and these have opened up so much!

I also ordered a 12 tb emulated hard drive this spring. While it’s true you can always put in the work to download these yourself, as they say “ain’t nobody got time for that.” Pretty overwhelming at first, because it’s basically EVERY game up until the early 2000s - but it’s pretty fun to get into some forgotten classics. If anybody has recommendations for old school games that may be overlooked I am happy to try them out!

i got back into Skyrim seeing everyone talking about Oblivion and not wanting to drop 75-90 dollars right now. I have the Special Edtion for pc. There's so much extra content but really I just find myself puttering around building homes and crafting potions over and over for an hour or two every day. It's kind of like comfort food. Eventually I'll be ready to play something else.

Star Trek: Online, The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, Tales of Vesperia, Star Wars Pinball VR, and Walkabout Minigolf.

Good buddy got me a $50 PSN gift card, overlooking the fact I'm a little overwhelmed with school/work and not playing as many games, but I'm stoked at all the cool things I'm finding in the Playstation store.

I keep looking for things to scratch the nostalgia itch but I might also invest in The Show since my wife's taken such a keen interest in CBB and MLB. That could be a fun couples thing, video game baseball dates.

But also if anyone has some recommendations.

On a Spelunky kick again. I'm fucking awful but it's fun in the most frustrating way.

Fell back into TEW as well and that's been a really fun game to just play idly while watching TV
