Carrying over from the old board.....
Flatout: Ultimate Carnage arrived yesterday and I played that for a bit. I like it but as someone that is a Burnout junkie, the handling seems a lot looser in Flatout, especially when you take control of the really fast cars. I like how there is a bunch of destructible stuff and the debris remains on the road in subsequent laps, but it's also frustrating because plowing into that stuff gets you Nitro, but plowing into that stuff often slows you down (especially if you are in a car with a low Strength rating). The AI is pretty aggressive; they actually try to cut you off on corners and go on the attack instead of waiting for you to go after them which can be annoying when five cars are up your ass in a Demolition Derby, but is a positive in general. The main problem I have with the game is that the cars don't have much weight to them and the slightest bump can send an SUV with a 10 Strength rating bouncing all over the course. The driving in general feels a bit floaty and like I said, the handling is too loose; you can't really zip in and out of traffic like in Burnout without crashing into everything. The little mini-games are very fun with my favorites being Bowling and Royal Flush. Basically you get some speed on a ramp and launch your driver through the window, sending him ragdolling through the air towards the objective; in Bowling you crash him into a set of giant bowling pins and in Royal Flush you launch him towards a board with giant playing cards as you try to get a Royal Flush hand.
Overall it's enjoyable, but I'll stick with Burnout Paradise.
