I still can't really get over how mobile Andre is here in 82, and in 84 he is still doing top rope spots in cage matches... and then in 86 he thinks he has to retire. You never hear about a particular match where his back blew up, so I guess it was just like Billington and all of a sudden everything just crumbled.

As relatively bad as it was compared to Steamboat, Hart, Savage, and Funk, so much of Andre's work and bumps in the late 80s and early 90s (the Hogan bodyslams and 1990 Rumble come immediately to my mind) is otherworldy.

Andre was the smartest worker ever. Broken down Andre matches are masterclasses in making things matter and knowing your limitations.

33 years later and I'm still a little disappointed Andre didn't work the '91 Rumble.

Coolest shot of Shamrock's life. I wish that match was better.

I've always lowkey wanted a copy of this to put on the wall. LeDuc deserves it.

One of my favorite Raw matches ever and some of the best booking the WWF had done that decade (to that point).

Curious how Russo would have booked Sid. Russo had just taken over the book a few weeks before this. Sid was hurt (was this the car wreck?) and they forced him to fly in. Since he hadn't worked out properly while hurt, he wore the full body cover.
IIRC this was his last appearance of this run.

I wonder if Sid would have used the Montreal Screw job as an excuse to quit? He was flaky enough as it was and his push after WM 13 vanished quickly.

IIRC that was the taping where Sid told Harvey Wippleman he thought he was having a heart attack but asked Harvey to take him back to the hotel instead of the hospital

Russo had his attempt at Sid and it didn't work.

Sid sticks around in 97, though, and we probably don't see Austin get hurt. Like I don't think Austin gets the demotion to the IC title if Sid's there to take that spot, and we potentially get the Bret/Austin HITC match that we deserved.

I 100 percent assumed when this picture hit my feed that Carlos was about to wrestle a wheel chair bound Abby in a first blood match.

Owen pinned Austin July 6th at the Stampede PPV. Kind of had to go away from Bret/Austin after 3 PPVs while still keeping the top angle moving along.
Austin hurting his neck on the same night doesn't allow it, but Austin coming down during the Bret/Taker SSlam main event to cause chaos could certainly lead to Austin/Bret at a Hell in the Cell, but you almost have to convince Vince that his boyfriend doesn't need another failed run as champion and SSeries can be Austin's coronation as the new top guy and Bret can be "injured" in the Cell to write him off.
Or you have Austin screw Bret and Taker keeps the title, and loses it to Shawn via Kanerference 2 months later and then Austin/Bret HITC can be the SSeries co-main for a second year in a row and the timeline can be restored to Austin/Shawn Mania 14.
---
Sid could have taken Goldust's spot at Stampede to build to Sid/Owen at Summerslam, then Austin vs Pillman could finally go down at Summerslam I guess.
Sid sort of gums up things as they try to build up Shamrock as a draw, with Taker/Shawn/Bret being the focus and Austin simmering just below.

Sid was due for a heel turn I suppose. I wouldn't hate on a Road Warriors vs Sid/_____ summerslam match. You could work the Godwins heel turn in with Sid if you wanted to go with the southern fried heels. We need Tennessee Lee to come over early to be the manager since Sid liked him.

Austin going to Owen is a total demotion and cooled him significantly. Summerslam's booking is wonky as fuck because it isn't like either title match was in doubt and it was made very clear Austin could be the hottest guy in the company but just wasn't going to get the push he deserved, so he'd get the midcard title in a lame program with the Hart no one wanted to see him kill. Getting his neck broken shouldn't be the best thing to happen to someone's career. If the desination is Austin at Wrestlemania, don't have him try to kill Bret until getting into a squabble with and never crossing paths with Bret again.

Bret goes over Taker after costing Austin. Finish goes down the same. Austin fucks up whatever title match happens in September (another spot that logically would be better with Sid because at least he had credibility compared to Patriot). Austin/Bret in the Cell, the Taker/Shawn Ground Zero match on the undercard, and Sid/Vader/Owen under that.
